He'd have to go from 80 grand to 18 grand a week. Not Happening
Also he played right mid for most of newcastle last year, very similar to the role Brown does for us.

What a midfield that would be. I know it's not happening.
Also he should be pushing for the england squad, and he won't get that here.

 

i think sometimes we are a little to loyal to our own players bhoys and ghirls.

as we all want progression for the club (purley football based) then why wouldnt we sign barton to replace one of our midfielders? he was outstanding last year in a top division.

i like all of our midfielders and all think they are good quality. but if it means punting one of them no matter how much i like them then so be it.

top and bottom of it, no matter what barton is like off field, he would be the best midfielder we had. proven, experianced and still hungry.

and before people start ashley cole, giggsy, john hartson booted someone in the head (although i would class john as a nice person), keane ended someones carear on purpose, we would all have these players at celtic in a heartbeat.

the difference between joey barton and scum like diouf is he has changed and is continuing to becoe a better person.

 

True mate we're Celtic that's what makes us different from the huns, they'll sign any scumbag that's half decent at football.

 

No chance. We don't even need a player in that position and it would be pointless to break our wage structure for him. What would stop players who have done something for this club asking for the same when renegotiating contracts?

 

Despite all of his problems, he would greatly improve our midfield. He is a far superior player to Brown if he played on the right and is a better player than Ki, Kayal and Ledley. If we were to get him (which I don't think we will) then we would be getting a £6-£8 million pound player on a free transfer.

On the other hand we couldn't pay anything near what he would require in wages, on a reported £70K a week and refused to take a paycut at Newcastle. Despite all of the baggage that would come with him, I still think he would be a great signing.

Barton can f*** off to some english club. Firstly, we dont need him. We shouldnt be wasting our wage budget on more midfielders. Secondly, hes a thug, probably just as bad as diouf and it would make our club look bad to have someone like him playing for us. Thirdly his presence would affect squad harmony. Hes not worth 70,000, reminds me of that guy we almost signed from Hull. Completely overrated, greedy player whos just in it for the cash.

 

Wee bit of a silly statement there is it not? To say you dont want a player near our club because of his behavior is one thing, but to say we don't need him is daft. Joey would be the best midfielder at our club by a mile and include Kayal in that statement.

Personally i'm a wee bit on the fence with Barton. If he signed he would improve our midfield greatly, however i feel he could bring bad publicity our way. All it takes is a few huns to wind him up in the city centre and * knows what could happen.

The likely hood is with Arsenal, Man Utd, Spurs etc all interested he wont come to Scotland anyway. It would serverely hammer his chances at future England call-up's. Then there's the whole wages thing...again.

Newcastle's best player last season, the fans don't want him to leave. There is no doubt he's talented, just a bit mental.
Not sure he would take a huge pay cut to play in the SPL, I wouldn't mind him pulling on the hoops tbh, even if it were just for one season, collect his winners medal then find another club in EPL.

 

Think this is like ledley if we got him for nothing we could easily sell him on for a couple of million

There's no place for him in our team and anyone who thinks otherwise are simply deluding themselves into thinking there is. We already have a big enough headache when it comes to choosing between central midfield players. That's the last area in the team we should be thinking about strengthening.

Look at Ki Sung Yeung for example. He put in one of the best performances he's ever had in a Celtic shirt last weekend and when Brown returns from suspension or whatever the * he's missing out for, Ki will probably be relegated back to the bench. Scott Brown is the captain and Lenny won't take him out of the team any time soon. Kayal and Ledley are going to be in the first team for as long as they stay at Celtic, as they have proven on many occasions that they are worthy of wearing The Hoops.

I'm not saying for a second that Ki isn't worthy, but Lennon has four midfielders that he sees as regular first team starters; Brown, Kayal, Ledley and Commons. The rest of the midfielders are nothing but benchwarmers after that, in his eyes, and there are seriously some people who want us to sign Joey Barton and pay his ridiculous wage demands, so he can just sit on the bench and do nothing, except make occasional sub appearances.

If we sign another central midfielder before we sign a goalkeeper/central defender/striker, then we'll know that something is going wrong behind the scenes and that the board need to get their priorities straight.

First point - we have too many CM players as it is.
Second point - his attitude stinks
Third point - "Top clubs are after Joey"

Third point being the main one.. they reckon Man Utd/Arsenal/Spurs are all wanting to speak to him. I personally couldn't see him going to any of the above and improving them...

I'd rather have the players we have and look to push them on. We already have someone with the 'qualities' of Barton.. his name is Broony.

 

Barton has been playing wide right for Newcastle he would be a massive upgrade on Brown Barton is 10times the player of Scott Brown.

Do not want him as i think he is a * but if he did come i would drop Brown for him no problem.

 

Amazed this thread isn't bombing worse than the Bellamy one. We've less chance of signing him, he's a much bigger * and has less talent.
