Joey barton is a brilliant footballer and wpuld be cracking for us and he would be our best plaer. He is a nutjob but are yous trying to say you wouldnt love watching him wind up the huns. Anyway he will cost to much in wages sadly but he will be great for whatever club signs him. P.s hes definetly calm down in recent times.

Good strong midfielder but can't see it happening, I don't think he would want to come to the SPL and even if he did, I don't think we could afford his wages.

I also think the Glasgow "goldfish bowl" would be a disaster waiting to happen for him............unfortunately.

why are we favourites to sign him with both skybet and williamhill? :97: am i missing something? surely we have no chance of signing this guy.

by the way people slating his past.... bellamy hit his own teamate with a golf club! bet everyone would love him to come to celtic. barton last season was outstanding for newcastle and apart from one minor coming together his behaviour was impeccable.

celtic cant afford to turn players of his quality down

would be a brilliant player for us but hes on 70k-a-week and there are teams like arsenal ans aston villa so there is no way he would come and old firm games the nicest players become aggresive and very into the moment i think if he played then he would get sent off easy as he is a nutter , but tbh if he said he wanted to then id take him

What about the * he's just pulled? Newcastle are making him free for a reason. It's saying something that this guy is too scummy for Newcastle.

i get the feeling we dont even know the half of it with whats going on just now. i cant understand why newcastle would let there best player go for nothing because hes been saying nasty things about them. also hes not the first player to come out and slate newcastle, jose enrique did it just a week ago and he seems to be getting of with it. ill admit its wrong what hes been posting on twitter but im not about to start arguing whether footballers should have twitter or not because we could be here all day

That's a completely different argument. I take it you don't think it's alright to slate your own club on twitter? He's a moron. Come on man, we're not that desperate.

First off he won't come to us, but...

I have to laugh at the folk on here saying they don't want one of the best midfielders in England. Oh dear. Who exactly do you think we are? Barcelona?

You think if Lennon got offered Barton for 25k a week he would turn it down because he used to be a bit of a bad boy?

Roy keane purposely ruined someones whole carreer and life for that matter, iirc he was a * to us when he signed...

Can people not change? I couldn't care about his past, everyone has skeletons in their closets.

    Crazy comments in here.

it is wrong to slate your team on twitter yes, what i am saying is he is not the first newcastle player of the last 5 years to publicly criticise the club and he wont be the last. you dont need to be desperate to fancy joey barton as a player! man united and arsenal are after the guy!

ill admit it would be a big risk bringing him up here if it were to pay off however it could lead to many championships as he would comfortably be the best midfielder in this league

Mike Ashley deserves everything he gets. He's kicking Barton out of the club, what do you expect him to do?

Sit back and accepted it? Don't think so. He has a contract and should have the right to stay.

Barton has every right to have a go at Ashley. He's sold their best players for huge money and hasn't even pumped half of it back into the club.

Barton, like the other Newcastle players have ambition and want to know where the club is going. He's obviously questioned a few of the clubs policy's and the egomaniac that is Mike Ashley didn't handle it too well.

Fair play to Barton, Newcastle is a sinking ship with that fat Bassa at the helm.

So you can imply what you like about Newcastle but when he does it as a player he's the *? His comments were made because he was passionate about the club an felt let down for the the players and fans alike. If Celtic were being ran as Newcastle are I'd applaud anyone who stood against them same way Barton has done

As for dropping players no-one needs dropped and there's no guarantee our midfield will do as well this year or stay injury free. Talk of Wanyama also, not too sure he's in for a first team spot very often just yet. Letting this go because we've got a few midfielders who've done well last year is crazy logic u can never have too many top players it's how we move forward as a squad and pushes the driftwood even further out of contention

I think there's a big difference in slating your club and slating the way your club is being ran or indeed who is running it
