I think it's hilarious that this thread is still running, cos i don't believe for a second that this * will ever play for Celtic. I don't use the c word often but in Barton's case I"ll make an exception.

Turns out he was/is an Everton fan. Always thought he was a Liverpool fan. I take back what I said then!

I'd rather strap him to a rocket, and send him off to destination: Louis Spence's *!

Their's also the thing about someone taking a chance on you, when nobody else would, which can be a heck of a powerful thing.

What a midfield we'd have, Ledley, Brown, Kayal, Wanyama and Barton? Sounds strange.

It might not be as bad as everyone thinks. It might give us some other options, like giving Broony more freedom to play higher up the pitch. Also Broony, i'm not sure if he's got a hernia or something. Does that not require an operation? I dunno about that.

Guys a bit of a dafty, but with the baggage comes a wealth of experience. He's played 255 games and for all the bad boy talk, he's only been sent off 5 times in his whole career. In 255 games against the best players around.

What's funny is he's had 61 yellow cards, that's got to be some kind of record.

Maybe if we got him playing well and he proved he'd got his head together, one of the promoted sides would take a punt on him next season. So we'd get him on a free and punt him for 1.5 - 2million next Summer. If we got him on a free, and he realised maybe the money isn't as important about finally getting a chance to sample a proper run in Europe.

Lenny knows his position on the park well, so it'd be easy to coach him.

Image wise, it doesn't look good, signing a guy like this, but if by the end of the transfer window, we're struggling to get a midfielder

Just don't think the baggage outways the techincal ability. To be honest, towards the end of last season I started to feel sorry for him cause he gets a lot of bad calls made against him due to his reputation, but what he did in the last game of the season is inexcusible at any level. He deserves his bad and I don't think hes worth the risk when our midfield is so strong. It would be interesting if he was a CB instead, now that would be a thinker..

Up until that point he was playing quite well and holding his own against one of the most expensive teams in the world.

I'm not gonna say, we should sign him, or defend him because he is a *, but these kind of players get remembered for the crazy moments and not all the goals he setup for Andy Carroll.

I'd be shocked if we took him in, but he'd stroll through the games up here, then no doubt do something stupid.

The thing is though, a free transfer.....

From having a player of Ki's quality and normal behavior in the team, to getting linked with some savage bruiser like Barton. The club has really begun going down in ambition.

Who says the club is even interested? Whole statement just makes you look like a Ki fan instead of a Celtic fan.

ki was a passenger at the best of times. But that's not the point we support the team not one player

I'm just comparing players. From a cultured player with normal behavior, to a savage criminal, who plays dirty both on and off the pitch.

Don't worry, their's no official link with us and Barton. I don't foresee Lawwell signing Barton. Was just thinking it would noise the English right up, if he came in and played well. And he'd be unbelievably focussed on proving his critics wrong. He's been blacklisted from the English game, for a messy sending off.

Look at the context of the game against man city. City weren't going to win the league, Tevez went right out of his way to get Barton sent off. One minute he's rolling around the floor, the next he's challenging Barton to a fight, clearly with nothing wrong with him.
Every Man City player came at Barton, Aguero's shouting at the referee to send him off, shouting at Barton, he got a wee tap on the leg, he goes over like he's been shot, rolls around the floor than gets up, clearly fine, goes to challenge Barton, but before he gets the chance another player has steamed into Barton, and Barton just isn't feart. Incidentally, where are the QPR players to back up Barton, knowhere. It's basically the whole Man City team versus the referee and Barton.

Straight away Barton knows what's at stake and knows how it'll be banded around in the press. The City players did all this to get an advantage and Barton was stupid enough to take the bait.

Barton goes off the pitch, Balotelli gets involved. These guys all came at Barton, if they had stayed out of the way, he'd have got sent off and that would have been it.

On the subject of Barton being a savage criminal, well we've all seen the video of him knocking that guy out, but you just don't know the context, neither do i BTW:)

It could be that some drunken idiot gave him abuse and challenged him to a fight.

An example is Gerrard from Liverpool. Everybody saw his street fight when he was out with some friends and it was a lot worse than Barton's.

So it hits the press for a few weeks and is then forgotten about. Barton's, is a different story because he's put in some crude challenges on folk on the park. Gerard is the golden boy and Barton is the street thug. But, he went to jail, came out and screwed the nut for a while.

At Newcastle he played well, settled into his football and was the best player in the championship in his position.

It might be that Lenny would be able to get the best out of him. But he'll probably end up in the Championship or The Blue Square League:)

Barton does have ability. He started to do well at Newcastle until Pardew came in. I haven't actually seen that much of him over the years so not sure. He's a decent player and I don't care about the other stuff. But genuinely is he good enough for Celtic, what would the wages be like, and would we rather have Henriksen.
