In the paper today saying he wants offered a new contract and is ready to sign. Why has this not been done already. Massively important player for both domestically and in Europe.

Seriously how difficult can it be to offer Ledley and Samaras new contracts? I don't understand why these things have to turn into sagas. It should have been dealt with weeks ago.

Because it should have been dealt with ages ago and that's twice Ledley has felt the need to state publicly that he would like to stay here and sign a new contract. He's clearly one of our key players, I don't understand what the hold up is.

Just why are Celtic SO slack when it comes to offering players contracts?

Especially someone like Ledley who's stated he'd happily renew his for a while now.

I'd imagine because they'll want a pay rise and Celtic tiered wages will * that.

    Exactly.

Quite pathetic that it's taken this long and he's felt the need to come out and say a couple of times. Just sign him up Celtic ffs.

Ledley calls for Celtic contract talks

The midfielder has one year left on his current deal and is eager to extend his stay at Parkhead, while also casting an eye to the club's Champions League qualifier versus Elfsborg

Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley wants to secure a new contract with the club "sooner rather than later".

The Welshman is in the final year of his deal and keen to extend his stay with the Scottish Premiership champions.

Despite his determination to discuss a contract with manager Neil Lennon, Ledley also wants to focus on Celtic's Uefa Champions League third round second leg tie with Elfsborg on Wednesday.

"Everything is still on hold at the moment, as I said to the gaffer, I'd like to concentrate on the pitch more than off the pitch."

"Hopefully, my agent can come up soon to sort everything out and the club offer me a new deal. It's a very important couple of weeks."

"It's a fantastic situation we're in. Hopefully, I can just concentrate on my football first, qualify for the Champions League then go from there."

"I'm getting older. I'm going to be 27 this season. I'm very happy here and it's a fantastic club. This contract is important to me and hopefully it's sorted sooner rather than later."

Celtic head to Sweden with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, thanks to a Kris Commons winner at Celtic Park and Ledley is eager to reach the group stages of the competition, after getting to the knockout phase last season.

"We don't want Europa League football. Champions League is our aim, last season was fantastic with the way we played and dealt with it all."

"It was a fantastic honour and they were the best days of my life."

Lennon's men enjoyed a famous victory over Barcelona in Glasgow in the competition last season before bowing out in the round of 16 to Juventus.

Isn't this the THIRD time this summer that Ledley has called for a new deal/said he'd want to stay?

    Crazy.

He's been asked a question twice and he's answered it twice.

It's a hectic time of the season, he's more than happy to sign and is just concentrating on the next few weeks getting into the CL.

If someone asks him again he will say the same thing but it wont make it any less true than the first time.

He's happy, he realises it's a busy time, he is happy to wait himself so he can concentrate on the CL. There is no story here imo.
