Nicholas left because Arsenal offered him 5 times what he was on at Celtic - it is well known that the wages Celtic paid at that time were not spectacular.

Are you saying that if you were on £20,000 a year and then someone offered you £100,000 you would knock it back? No matter how much you love something we all need to earn a living.

Nicholas left in 1983 for more money - Billy McNeil also left in 1983 as a result of a dispute over money - does that tell you something about the club at that time.

As Billy McNeill himself said in his book he felt that Desmond White was leading the club towards a great black hole of despair with his lack of ambition. If this is the managers (a Celtic legend) viewpoint then why would players have a different attitude - despite their history & love for the club?

Thank you for the history lesson mate,I was aware of the meaness of the board at the time and the circumstances surrounding Caeser's messy departure, but thanks anyway.
Many Celtic players have left for pastures new and while Ive been gutted, life goes on.And you are right, everyone is entitled to earn a good living for themselves and their families.
Im sure however you would agree there are examples of Celts who did stay with the club despite receiving great offers to go elsewhere.McStay,McGrain,Burns to name but three.
I just dont agree that Nicholas's snide attitude towards Celtic is to cover up what a big fan he is.I see no evidence for this.

Not trying to give you a history lesson gary b - sorry if you think I was. Totally agree with you regarding the players named and there are plenty others I am sure - I can imagine a few of the Lisbon Lions were tempted by a few more shillings from down south but managed to stay loyal to us - I think they only left when Jock Stein told them it was time to go!!

Nicholas is one of those guys that is gonna split supporters and we'll probably never agree on him - * him anyway - the club have moved on and certainly nothing he does/say has any major impact on the club or fans - apart from making a few want to rip his head off!!! :icon_mrgreen:

    Agree 100% mate!

Nicholas just * me off mainly because i was a huge admirer of him as a player in his first spell with us.You are spot on about the money that was on offer to him,and who wouldnt be tempted.I just feel if he would have stayed another two seasons with us, he would have been better prepared for the English game.He never lived up to his promise, and he was some player in that first spell.

    Anyway as you say,* him.

    btw welcome to the site:50:

Cheers for the welcome. Very impressed with the site - appears to be a solidarity despite the differences in opinion - unlike other boards I have looked on recently.

For Nicholas see Donnelly, Miller, Maloney et al. Take the filthy lucre and sit getting splinters in their * down in England.

Hope they enjoy spending their cash whilst we enjoy winning trophies!!!

And Sacha Baron Cohen who is a jew rips the pish completely out of his own with Borat.

But Charlie Nich is probably * Whitey, he's a * * that should remember his second stint at Paradise wasn't exactly the Second Coming.

Some are saying " Aye but CN is a Tim"
If he was a real Tim he would have been straight down the * throat.

I met jim white when the fans were protesting outside the ground, when he worked for stv and he was as grim faced as ever, was about 12. Asked him why he didn't have his Cellic scarf on and he looked at me as if i was an alien. *.
