Agree with all of this except the awareness, gets caught ball watching quite a bit and lets balls get played in behind him/caught wrong side of his man.

Hes the right back equivalent of Lennon, back ward pass or Square, mate go * forward with the ball and defend when required.

Don't rate him at all. Doesn't seem to have any belief in himself to influence the game - always happy to play the easy ball. Down the pecking order at Dortmund for a reason - not good enough for Celtic.

He really is poor in the final third, can count on one hand the amount of successful crosses he has made in his time here. The thing is, defensively (apart from switching off lapses in grabbing players shirts) he seems to be somewhat solid but attacking wise he offers nothing. He's got about 2 games left to show something otherwise step up Mr Gamboa.

Just goes to show you it really doesn’t matter where a player comes from, the Dortmund tag has quickly lost its shine.

I think he's suspect defensively and pretty good going forward.

With the whole switching off thing you mention, the thing is he does get caught out quite a lot. It's not an occasional thing. Possibly more game time and good coaches can coach that out of him, but the jury's still out on him defensively.
Going forward, he's doing OK IMO. The worst thing that ever happened to our right backs is KT. People expect our RB's to force the game the way KT does on the left (when he's 100% fit). That isn't realistic on our budget (unless Cafu has a son at PSG and Lawwell can arrange a loan).

Finally it's hard to judge his crossing when there's no real target for crosses. He's right to avoid crossing just for the sake of it IMO.

According to FM he’s on €65k a week contract with Dortmund.
If that’s true (and it usually is pretty close) then goes to show the world of football has gone to *.

To be fair we were hopeless yesterday. Couldn’t string two good passes together and plenty of players hiding as usual when the going gets tough. So it’s easy to blame him but at least he was trying.
Johnstone, Forrest, Bitton, KT were all equally as poor.
We just had a bad day and the sheep worked hard and fair play to them they took the game to us.

Spot on with the constant focus on the right backs performance each game, each touch is being watched closer than it should be. I think he is performing at around 6/10 so far which wouldn't justify us going out of our way to get him but calls for Lustig to be brought back so close to the huns game is frightening- he cost us the goal v the huns and then got hooked at half time.

I just think going forward he is aimless all the time, it's like it doesn't come naturally for him to sprint to the by line and get a decent ball in. He's got pace but he doesn't seem to know how to use it and offer the right runs, Gamboa for me gives a lot more attacking wise and has a good engine, at home I don't think he's had 1 bad game. I get your point about crossing and it doesn't help when were playing a winger who doesn't really know what runs to make just yet, although I've even seen him fail to make a couple of easy cut back balls towards the edge of the box. Hopefully Lennon starts playing 2 up front and Edouard can get his head on a couple, thinking about it- how many headers have we scored this season? would probably be at an all time low, only one I can remember is Griffiths v Rosenborg

Ralstons better. I'd keep developing him. Getting in on goals, going forward. Sure looks a bit clumpy on the ball but just lately he was doing qaulity before his injury.

I'd rather see Ralston come in and be developed as our main right back. There is a very good player in there if he can stay injury free.

A better player in all departments than Toljan in my opinion

    65k :eek1:

He certainly isn’t the worst we have seen and on paper you would think we have a more than capable player.

But as folk have mentioned he is on loan, isn’t exactly setting the world on fire so why not just develop our own.

Correct, Lennon was class at what his job was but that's not our right backs job.
