Thought he was quality. Think him and Forrest would be lethal, two quick clever players and Forrest always opens up the space for the full back to overlap outside just lustig hasn't the legs to be doing it throughout the game.

The guy looks a good. Never took what chances and kept it tight. You could see the confidence this have Boyata and in particular Jozo. If allowed them to focus on they're own game. Without having to worry about covering the gaps left at the back by Lustig when he decides to support up the wing.

Early days - but one of the most promising 90minute debut in ages. If he can keep the magic with Timo/James on the right and we get KT back to his best on the left.....we will have more energy and penetration from full back than most SPL teams have in their entire squad

If last night is indicvative of how he will always play, I'd be paying whatever BVB want for him tbh

Early days yet but what a player Toljan looks like. Very impressive first 90 minutes last night. Does not just get forward well but gets his head up and really picks out a player in the box so well which of course he did for the first goal with Christie last night. Would love it if we could find a way to sign him permanently in the summer.

On initial evidence, Jeremy Toljan has made a seamless addition to Celtic.

The full-back came through his first 90 minutes for the Parkhead club in the 2-0 win over Hibs on Wednesday evening, with the 24-year-old claiming an assist as he did so.

The manner in which he has gelled with Brendan Rodgers’ team following his signing in the final hours of the transfer window is perhaps all the more impressive for the fact it comes on the back of no competitive game time at all this season.

Having fallen out of favour at Borussia Dortmund, Toljan’s 45 minutes against St Johnstone last Sunday and his game on Wednesday night have provided his first exposure to first-team football all season.

If his legs are sore, there is adequate compensation in the fact he is back playing.

“I think it’s normal when you haven’t played a lot that you need some games to adapt and get your fitness back in a good way,” said Toljan.

“I was training all the time at Dortmund, I wasn’t injured I think I’m fit enough to play games.

“I felt good against Hibs. I have the qualities to play and that’s always my goal to play.”

Toljan has been seen as the short-term solution to the long-term right-back issue. The expectancy is that the German fullback will keep his place for Sunday’s visit of St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, a game that will complete a trio of matches against the Perthshire side in the last fortnight.

It is an encounter that is also pivotal to Celtic’s ambitions of enjoying a third successive clean sheet, something that has never been done before, as they look to defend the trophy they have won as part of a treble for the last two seasons.

Indeed, such has Brendan Rodgers’ stranglehold on domestic football been that he has never lost a domestic Cup game as he looks to set a new record; Walter Smith set a Scottish record of 23 Cup wins that stretched from season ’91-92 to ’93-94.

“My ambitions are positive,” said Toljan. “I think as a footballer these Cup games are the best. Cup and Europa league are the best

Everybody has told me that no team has made it before. Hopefully we can achieve it and win it.”

If Toljan knew fairly little of Celtic prior to his arrival, he was quick to brush up as he took a look back at various YouTube games at Celtic Park.

As such, he has insisted that the club’s billing has lived up to its reputation as he looks now to experience the extra element of tension that comes with a European tie.

Celtic play Valencia in the Europa League on Thursday night, a game that Toljan is already anticipating.

“I’ve heard a lot about the atmosphere being crazy and I enjoyed it a lot,” he said.

“It’s always important to win and as a defender have a clean sheet and I hope we can keep that up in the next week.

“This has been an exciting few days, but it’s a nice team they have accepted me right away.

“I have settled into it very quickly and everything is good so far.

“The style is exactly what I expected. I had seen some video clips of previous matches so I knew what I should expect and the style of play suits me well.

“I’m looking forward to both [the Scottish Cup and Europa League] and hopefully we can win.”

Toljan has settled quickly into the Parkhead side with the player believing that the manner in which Brendan Rodgers wants to play is akin to what he has been used to in Germany.

“It’s quite similar,” he said. “In Dortmund we had the ball most of the time and tried to attack and score many goals and Celtic is the same so it’s no big deal for me.”

Celtic have kept six clean sheets since returning from the break and Toljan is keen to ensure that record is maintained.

“I think if you do good in offence and score a lot it’s hard for the opponent then to score against you,” he said.

“We have been doing a good job in defence and I think we defend counter-attacks very well.

“I hope we can keep doing this and avoid losing many goals.”

Anyone know how much of a wage cut this guy took and how likely it is to hinder a permanent move?

Didn't think loanees really took a wage cut. I assume whatever he's on we are probably paying a majority percentage of.

Given he's position and lack of game time he's had since going to Dortmund I wonder if he's on alot anyway, more than we would normally pay sure, but could still be attainable I hope.

He’ll have gave up some clause, appearance money or something. Dortmund wouldn’t be cheeky enough to not make up any shortfall on weekly wage if there is one. He’s still their player.

Much is he on though? Can't see us breaking the mould in order to keep him.

Looking forward to seeing both him and KT in the team, will prevent every winger in the league from trying to stay forward

unpopular opinion clearly but I wasnt impressed much at all with him against hibs. Didnt try to beat his man or go down the line once even though he had plenty opportunity to, instead playing the safe pass everytime. Have a feeling he'll be decent though when fully fit.
