This one has nothing to do with scouts, this is another player Rodgers has worked when previously and thinks can do a job for us.

It actually makes me think there may have been something in the Amartey links earlier this summer too, but we haven’t been able to shift players to make it happen.

However, I agree if going to previous Rodgers players is where we are then it suggests those the scouts are suggesting aren’t viewed as good enough by the manager.

 

Serious question.. what the actual * do ya reckon our scouts do on a daily basis?

Schlupp has never played under Rodgers though.

 

He was good when getting balls into Wright and Bright back in the day..............

 

I just don't see where he fits in our team. If we were getting a back up utility player that can fill in various positions to give us some squad depth fair enough, but I can't see that being the case with the wages he'd be on. If he's really the best we can find for a 1st choice left back though then we'd be as well getting rid of what's left of our scouting department, assuming there actually is anyone doing the job. it's kind of hard to tell.

 

This will be a Brendan sos signing to pull us out a hole because recruitment failed to do their jobs again bit like kolo toure signing …. I’d say this is maybe the fourth or fifth time Rodgers has signed his recommendation because the round a table first target they agreed on the board were incapable to do

I have no insight but they must be looking at players, the thing is we actually don’t have that many scouts for the size of club we are. You would assume they must be doing what scouts do and watching a list of players who are off interest to the club and prior to that searching chosen markets for players.

However, it is alarming how many players we pick up based on recommendations that we don’t seem to do too much of our own diligence on.

The ones I recall hearing off that include:

- Matt O’Riley (Steve Evan’s recommendation - a Celtic supporting manager in the league he was playing in)
- Jota (Benfica intermediary the club somehow has a connection with)
- Gustaf Lagerbielke (ex players agent)
- Liel Abada (Dudu Dahan special)
- Daizen Maeda, Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Ideguchi, Tomoki Iwata (all guys Ange knew from his previous job.)
- Vakoun Bayo (Lubo recommended)
- Maryan Shved (Shevchenko was a golfing buddy of Desmond and recommended him)
- James McCarthy (Desmond negotiated a deal)
- Mo Bangura (Larsson recommended but did we sign the right Bangura?)
- Mooy, (Ange connection)

Then when you see some of the players our scouts seem to have recommended no wonder we rely on recommendations, Bernabei, Yang, Oh, Kwon, Tilio, and Nawrocki.

Before that we got a couple of good players in Giakoumakis and Juranovic which appeared to be via scouting. Alastair Johnston too seems a good scouting signing.

 

Build tents, abseil, pack groceries at the supermarket...

My mistake on that one but I still think this will be someone he knows from his time in The EPL rather than us actually scouting a player.

 

I actually think we dont even have scouts.

Certainly not guys contracted to club full time, looks like we throw a few bob at these "scouts" if and when we sign someone off their recommendation.

Its certainly not like champ manager, where you assign a scout to a region or league to find a specific profile of a player.

Half the users on here can find an affordable left back by hoking about on the internet for half an hour ffs

 

Tosh McKinley and Peter Houston not scouts?

 

He plays every position except goalkeeper ffs

 

We have 7 scouts just not a cohesive structure

This is exactly where I’m at. Yeh sure Taylor tries hard and stuff bla bla bla, doesn’t change the fact he’s no where near good enough to be a starting left back for us. Again at the weekend there against a horrific Hibs side, he has the first touch of an elephant, slow, a borrower, technically poor. I’d take * anyone!
