I don't think we'll want to pay more than a couple of million for a player anyway, no matter what anyone from the club might say.

I also don't really agree that Vaughan would be just a "good" signing. I think he'd be an excellent signing. He's got a good shot with both feet and a natural finisher, scores headers, has a bit of pace - but i like the boy because he's playing with a bit of fire in his belly. He can more than match up to the physical side of things and that is what worries defenders.

So i honestly am pretty certain, he'd be the kind of aggressive goalscorer that would get lots of goals.

Couple of seasons ago he got 14 in the Premiership. Right now, he's on good form, but i honestly think we've maybe missed the boat with him.

Ings i think you'd be talking £3-4million, quite easily.

Ings looks like the better of the two, but pairing them together could be very interesting.

Me personally, when i went to sign a striker, i'd be looking at getting the midfielder, who's setting up the goals, the delivery into the box from Burnley looks really good

Burnley, sitting in second spot look good for promotion, so i think the chances of them selling anyone in January is probably not very high.

Ings look a good player but we will never stump up the money for him, Vaughan is not good enough IMO.

Ings yes. Vaughan I'm not sure, maybe just a player that has taken a while to find his feet.

Mate miku never settled and was never given a consistent run in the team. I'm not saying every player from these are gonna be hits but theres far better quality and value than in the championship lol, the leagues *. Couldnt care if a player comes here and scores 20+ in the spl, i'm talkin about making an impact in europe

Well i could, 20+ goals in the league would do me just fine. These are the kind of guys who'll get goals in Europe, they're few and far between, but every season produces 2 or 3 really good ones.

It would be daft to say that the Championship is a * league. For starters, it's more popular than Serie A, so it's entertaining to watch, the football is good and the facilities and training methods are the same as the Premiership.

you lot cream me off, you really do. I am a 'spurs' season ticket holder, as well as being a celtic fan. Whilst our former truly world class player has found his feet and banging them in for RM, Spurs bought amongst others 2 players for £56M, one who can not get into the team, despite poor results and the other one who can get a goal for toffee. Money does not necessarily buy success. And there is a case for buying British, since those aforementioned apparently do not speak good English. Celtic should have got that guy (who probably would have fitted in) where there were over 3,000 postings, why get 2 who Lennon does not rate. They really slipped up big time. On Sunday, scored 7 goals, not one from a striker.

Ryan Gould seems to be the boy everyone wants, is he that good?

A striker may not have scored, but the striker on the park had a great game and was involved in more than one goal.

A goal created is just as good as a goal scored.

but wouldn't it be great to see balde or puki or even stokes scoring, not just your browns , commons, ledly, etc, same for spurs, i thought a £26m player would be knocking em in , just like he did last season. We know Commons is good. You must know what i mean. Deep down, we all really want the striker to get the bulk share of goals, ala Hooper.

Probably because it'd be hard to attract players of that up and coming reputation. I would expect that they think their next move is to a much higher profile league.

Celtic must cough up to land James Vaughan

Celtic will have to break the bank – and possibly their club record transfer fee – to sign Huddersfield Town striker James Vaughan.

Hoops manager Neil Lennon watched the 25-year-old in a 1-0 win against Bolton last night, three days after seeing him score against Burnley.

Express Sport has been told it would take a bid in excess of £6million for the Championship outfit to even consider selling their prize asset.

Celtic would need to make former Everton and Norwich ace Vaughan one of their top earners to have any chance of pulling the move off. The Hoops’ record transfer outlay is the £6.5m they paid to Leicester City to sign Lennon in 2000.

Since then the club has worked hard to bring its wage bill down, despite the millions pocketed from the Champions League and the big-money sales of Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper.

Lennon is keen to sign a British-based striker, having been stung by a host of foreign recruits who have failed to deliver in front of goal for Celtic.

Celtic have already opened talks with Partick left-back Aaron Taylor-Sinclair over a pre-contract, and Express Sport revealed yesterday that the Premiership leaders face competition from Rangers for Dundee United central defender Gavin Gunning.

Lennon is still keen on Peterborough United frontman Lee Tomlin, above, despite having three bids for the 24-year-old Englishman turned down in August. The Hoops boss is likely to try his luck again during next month’s transfer window.

The Posh heavily criticised their Parkhead counterparts for waiting until the final day of the Scottish transfer window to make their move and unsettling their player on the day of a match
