This is a super signing if he stays fit but I'd question the logic of giving him a 4 year deal with his track record. Definitely the type of player we need though.

Some much needed experience in, happy with this. Now just right back, left back, centre back and centre forward.

Poor James is made of glass unfortunately

But if he manages to stay fit he could turn out to be a great signing

The McCarthy I remember from Everton is a definite upgrade but can't say I've seen much of him lately.

I do like that on paper he at least brings top level experience and some much needed bite to our midfield and at 30 he should still be young enough to have some of his beat years ahead.

just looking at his history, Scottish football is certainly more bumps and bruises, a player we should have got 10 years ago.
    66 games in 5 years I think?
nonetheless, for hart and him it is small outlays compared to money wasted on barkas, ajeti, bayo, shved, klimala etc.

other than that we will need another physio with mikey j, dembele, bitton, rogic, Griffiths etc..

full backs and a striker plz!

Im not a huge fan of english football, so Ive not seen a lot of McCarthy. Barring injuries how has McCarthy performed in the last 2 or 3 years? At 30 years old it shouldnt be the case that we are signing a player whose best days are long gone unless he has suffered permanent damage through injuries.

I'd imagine the four year contract is to spread his wages out a bit

a 16 year old stuck in champ manager 2008 has taken over Celtic's signings.

you get a club and the first thing you look for is free signings, some of which knock you back and you end up with kennedy bakirioglu and taribo west lol we are living the dream lol

Yeah he prob could have got a good 30% more on a 2 year deal elsewhere. The 4 years would have been what we had to offer to make it worth his while.

Welcome James. Give us your all.

Good experience, knowledge and dig. Takes some weight of Calmac shoulders in there. Doesn't have to play 50 games a season. Can play half easily, whilst letting Calmac, Soro and Shaw get rest and game time also. Good signing

Again, he'll add some dig. Don't know enough about his quality on the ball.

why not give a 12 month contact to be reviewed at the end of the season based on appearances etc, if he plays more than 18 league games an automatic 6-9 month deal kicks in etc?

Ah Kennedy Bakirciouglu the cheap Henke. That brings back many happy Tonton Zola Moukoko memories.

He would have went elsewhere. Loads of clubs down there able to offer bundles more than us and are happy to do so. He would have had those on the table. Guy at his age wants security if he's going to take a hit in wages.

Hopefully this means we are keeping the big money for signing a new defence, minimum to nil spent on transfer fees.
I hope the two lads do well, but can’t help but feel this board thinks we will be satisfied with this.

On paper he should be a pretty decent signing. Away to have a snoop at the CP forums to see what they're saying about him.
