CELTIC are delighted to announced that James Forrest has signed a new four-year deal which will see him remain at the club until at least the summer of 2022. The 27-year-old joined the Academy set-up when he was just nine-years-old and he has gone on to make a total of 307 appearances, scoring 58 goals.

Forrest made his first-team debut against Motherwell on May 1, 2010, scoring in a 4-0 victory, and over the past eight years, he has won seven league titles, four Scottish Cups and three League Cups.

Speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website, the Hoops winger described his delight at having signed his new four-year contract.

“From the first moment that I knew Celtic wanted to extend my deal, I knew this was what I wanted to do and there’s no other place for me,” Forrest explained.

“It’s unbelievable when you think about how long I’ve been here. Coming through the Youth Academy, all I wanted to do was make my debut in the first-team, and I was able to do that, but I could never think then that I’d go on to play the number of games that I have.

“I’m 27 now and I want to keep working hard, play as many games as I can and contribute as much as I can to this club. I’ve been here since I’ve been a wee boy. It’s been my full life and I just want to stay here for as long as I can.

“You know how big Celtic is as a club, all over the world, and every year we’re competing for trophies, every game you play is a high-pressure game, and as a player, you’re always trying to better yourself and keep working hard, and I’m delighted to be here for the next few years.”

Forrest is one of a number of Youth Academy graduates who has gone on to become a mainstay in the Celtic first-team squad, alongside the likes of Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney.

And just as he looked up to the top-team stars when he was a youngster, he’s aware that he and his team-mates are role models to the current Academy Bhoys. His advice to the youngsters aiming to follow in his footsteps is straightforward – just keep working hard.

“The Academy set-up here is brilliant,” he said, “and every year you progress through that, you have to keep working hard.
“You do get a chance here at Celtic as a youth player, and when you do, you just need to try and take it. There’s nothing better than coming through and playing for this great club and it’s been a great journey for me.”

As for any particular highlights of his Celtic career to date, that’s a tougher question for the player.

“People have asked that before but, as I’ve always said, it’s always the next one you’re looking forward to,” he said. “You appreciate it and you don’t want to ever take anything for granted because it is hard to win cups and leagues.

"So every time you do win one, you’re delighted and you just to make sure you do it again, because you’re hungry for more. I’m here for another four years now and that’s what I want to keep doing.”

    Greats news.

A one club man, a rare thing in football today.

A song is well overdue, thought he’d get one at some point last season where he was POTY, for me.

Its people like James Forrest who are the REAL Celtic heroes. This is a guy who has committed his whole career to Celtic and is a proven quality player. Unlike a here today gone tomorrow foreigner such as the sulky faced Moussa Dembele who will leave at the first opportunity, unfortunately its his type of player that gets all adulation, songs and praise. We should appreciate our own more because when things start to get tough they are the ones who you can rely on to give 100% effort to get us through the rough times, just as Leigh Griffiths has been doing recently.
