Not at all surprised by this, Rodgers has said all along we really lack pace, would have been pointless bringing in Sinclair and losing Forrest because we'd have been right back where we started. Not sure he'll always be a starter once Roberts gets back but he's a great option to have come off the bench at least.

Not overly pleased with this one tbh, goes missing all the time in big games.

Hopefully Brendan can bring out the best in him

Not a great fan of him overall, but assuming when fit we'll go Sinclair on the left and Roberts on the right, he can provide decent cover for either side.

I'd hope we bring someone else in to replace Roberts at the end of his loan though, don't trust Forrest long term, he's had more chances than most to prove himself, he's well past the point of being wee jamesy young guy with potential, I think some people forget just how long he's been around the squad because he still looks 12.

Fantastic news, he's a good asset to have. Hopefully Brendan will be able to get the best out of him.

I'm still very skeptical about him, even though he has played decent the last couple of games. However, Brendan's seen enough to give him a new contract at a early stage of his tenure so clearly he sees that there is a use for him here. Hopefully he'll be a productive player from now on.

Celtic is my home and I'm glad to be staying

JAMES Forrest has long been one of the shining lights of the Celtic Youth Academy, a player who came through the ranks at the club and graduated to the first-team, and he is often held up as an example to the young players now at the Academy of how far it is possible to go with the right attitude, dedication, determination and talent.
Now 25, Forrest joined Celtic when he was just nine-years-old. It’s all he’s ever known in his football life, and that will continue to be the case for at least the next three years after he signed a new deal committing himself to the club until 2019.
And he’s delighted that his sole focus can be on his football after sorting out his future. Speaking to the official Celtic website after signing the deal, he said: “I feel that I’ve got a bit of experience now and I just want to kick on and just play as many games as I can for this club.
“I’ve been here since I’ve been nine. It’s all I know and it’s a massive club – one of the biggest in the world – so I’m just delighted to sign here again.”
Forrest, who is just seven games shy of his 200th appearance for the Hoops, scored his 31st goal for the club at the weekend, a stunning left-foot finish to give Celtic the lead against hearts at Tynecastle.
And he revealed that he responded to the challenge put down to him by new manager, Brendan Rodgers, when the players reported back for pre-season.
“From day one it’s been really positive and the manager’s had a good impact on all the boys,” he said, “and I think it’s shown in a lot of our good performances so far. Hopefully, as time goes on we kick on and do even better.
“I had a chat with the manager in the off-season and as soon as we came back in pre-season, and he just said, ‘show me what you’ve got.’ I made it clear that I wanted to stay here and I’m just glad it’s done now and I can focus on playing.
“We’ve made a few signings and they’ve made a good impact and it’s good for the squad, and we’ve also put in a couple of good performances against Astana to get to the play-off round, so it would be great to get into the group stages of the Champions League this season.”

He was trusted under Ronny and Lenny and look what happened. He'll be back to playing * in no time. IMO he should have been made to prove himself for a few months before being handed a new contract.

If he can stay injury free and get a run of games he will be an asset. I think he might be the type who needs an arm around the shoulder and encouragment to get back to form. Can play either wing to which is a big advantage. A bit of confidence and hopefully he will kick on.

His pace is a great option to have, especially off the bench when we need to stretch teams. And it's something Rodgers has highlighted as being something we've lacked in the squad.

Hopefully he carries on the way he has started this season.

Personally not bothered about it, think we can do much better than Forrest he has had one good game this season and even then it was mediocre...

Suppose it's good in the respect that if either sinclair or Roberts lose a bit of form we have him there to either push them on or come In and play...not to mention cover for injuries...makes sense

He's not been seriously injured in 2 years.

Always tickles me how long people bang on about his injury record. :smiley-laughing002:

It was pretty much agreed on here that he was one of our best players in the first half of last season.
