The chairman has said dont take the mickey with a £5m bid so that tells you everything.

This is a non starter. £10m + and he isnt worth that to us.

Sorry but i think Klimala would score them numbers in that league so it's a strong pass

A League 1 club telling a club like Celtic not to take the mickey. That in itself is taking the *. As good as Toney is/could be, he's only scoring goals against the likes of Lincoln, Rochdale, Fleetwood and Oxford.

It might not be Darragh MacAnthony's first "rodeo" as he describes it, but its not Peter Lawwel's either and he's far more advanced and experienced at it than he is.

So quit thinking your * billy big bollocks and know your place.

Didn't know much about this guy other then he started at Northampton, but watched a video of his goals this season and to be fair to him he's scored some really impressive goals with plenty of variation and skill.

Physical presence and an eye for goal, he would flourish here I think. Shame they've slapped a ridiculous price on his head but chances are a championship team could afford to take that gamble whereas we definitely can't and won't...

    Unless we sell Edouard :fear:

At the figures banded about, no chance.
Klimala was scoring for fun at a similar level (if not better) and I would honestly rather give that time to a youth/fringe player than spend double figures on someone who hasn't proved * remotely near our level.

Ajeti you can understand with a loan and a fairer option to purchase, decent age and proven at Basel in a league comparable to ours.

Toney, at 21/22 was deemed not good enough 2 years ago for Newcastle after having 6 loan deals in 3 years and dropped down to league 1 where against * poor opposition he has a similar return rate as Ajeti did at Basel - I'd rate that time at Basel as better experience than League one Peterborough. Price being quoted as well, no thank you.

Newcastle letting him go says absolutely nothing about his current ability.

Countless players get lost in the laughable Premier League merry go round.

Very true and generally speaking I wouldn't look down on that at all. But for the age, his previous 3 years of loans and the fact he dropped down to league one of all places, it's hardly the signs of someone who actually showed much of anything for his age between 18-22.
Always the chance of late bloomers and all that as well, happy to always take a punt - but not at those prices with that background.

I was meaning that he's at Peterborough, not Portsmouth.

I agree with you that the fee they're wanting doesn't represent good value for money.

Supposedly his missus is from Glasgow? Doesn't always mean anything I know..

The Strachan link is a good one as well..

Hopefully Ajeti comes in as he is the business. Done it in a similar-ish type league to ours. Is a different option to what we have. International with European experience. Already linked well with Mo..

If no then maybe we'll pull the trigger on Toney..

I am cautious it has been league 1 level he has made a name at and some of the videos of him show horrific levels of goalkeeping and defending so it is hard to judge but he does look to have something about him. I could see him scoring plenty of goals for us and is used to British Football.

If the price wasn’t ridiculous I wouldn’t be against bringing him in. I do think Ajeti looked good from his time at Basel so would probably prefer him but if he is not keen then we need to move on.

Looks like the only reason this is still rumbling on is because he wants to play for us. Good attitude at the very least :84:

Wonder if we have considered his team mate/striker partner Siriki Dembele (Karamokos big brother). Or wonder if Karamokos spoke to his brother to try and talk Toney into signing here.

Think he would score more goals than ajeti and tbh would rather have a player that wants to be here
