Infractions for Signature Violations

From what i've gathered, the reason this wasn't clamped down on before was because he had the "View Signatures" option turned off in the user CP so he never realised that anyone was over the limit

It was only today (or yesterday) when he turned the option on that he realised so many people were simultaneously rule-breaking

I don't think it's chit chat, no disrespect, but the images posted and the sigs are surely related in terms of width and speed of information flow or whatever ypou call it.

If the images have no effect then I'll say no more about it. I just thought they might be a problem sometimes. I mean if sig image size is a problem, then posted images might be too, as I understand it. No?

 

Since you appear to be speaking on behalf of Demspey throughout most of this thread I'll take that as a partial answer until Dempsey has time to reply.

Nah, 'cause usually images posted are uploaded to another site/server, ie: imageshack

As for loading times, it'll only appear once in that thread, and not every time you post so I can't imagine anyone getting infracted for posting an image larger that 300x100

 

Because it was in the rules you agreed to when registering and it's in a stickied thread that sigs must not exceed 50kb or 300x100px, so i'm guessing that it would be your fault if you didn't read the rules and accidentally broke one...

Btw, the infraction wont make much difference anyway as I assume most of your posts are decent and you're not a bad boy so you wont get infracted again

You're absolutely correct, which is why I was so annoyed when I found I had one for no apparent reason. Which was also in a thread where I had a debate which Dempsey was involved in. So imagine my shock when I come on today to find my infraction is in that thread. Dempsey has since told me that its because the way infractions work and whatnot.

This is how I see it mate. Let's say I'm a health & safety officer at work. We have tight rules at work and if you take anything into work and plug it in without it being PAT tested, you get docked 1 weeks wages. (not really, we're playing pretend here..) So months go on and I let people bring in their radios, mobiles phone chargers and cd players. 3 months pass and I haven't reported anyone to my boss about these problems. Suddenly I decide that I'm going to crack down and do my job properly, so I go back and find everyone who has non-PAT tested equipment and dock them all 1 weeks wages. Do you think they'd say "OK, I knew the rules?"

 

The "wrath" is a perm ban. As I have said several times to many people, an infraction is a warning about a rule break that we are willing to overlook if you comply in future. You usually get 3 chances, unless you really * it up and you wont get a 2nd or 3rd chance.

We dont care how other websites' operate, we have our own system for dealing with people.

You didnt have a clue of our rules, you didnt ask how we deal with people, so you cant have a problem when you 'ignorance' of the running of TC goes against you. Its your fault you didnt read the rules and you copped an infraction because of it.

You shouldn't care what anyone else is doing even if they breach the rules badly, the book will get thrown at them and if you are down there slinging mud back, you will cop a similar book in the side of the head so to speak.

This is not playschool, "He did it first" is a childish excuse for breaking the rules yourself and there wont be any leniency shown for the obvious reasons.

 

There's so much wrong with what you said. I'm a reasonable person and I don't really care about the fact my sig has been taken off. I wont put it back on as it looks stupid in 300x100. I made it that size because I didn't read the rules, my fault, fair enough, I accept that.

But what you're basically doing is punishing people for your own incompetence. You didn't enforce your own rules when I first joined up, that's not my fault. You've suddenly decided to enforce your rules and punish everyone who broke them while you weren't enforing your own rules.

I hope you don't see that as a bad thing against you, I'm just pointing out the obvious and stating why it has annoyed me.

 

Who has been punished? I dont call an infraction a punishment, neither do the rest of the staff. What part of "an infraction is a warning" dont you get?

I dunno what * up websites you've been on but there is no restrictions placed on anyone here by an infraction. Nobody has been banned for having a oversized signature on TC since I have been a staff member, which is a good while now.

To be punished is to be banned, not infracted, don't be so melodramatic!

Maybe a post saying you were about to enforce the rules and allowing people time to change it would have been more of what I expected. OK, maybe it's not a punishment, that's how you see it, you see it as a warning, your site, your rules, fair enough.

People dont read the announcement about the rules, what makes you think they are going to read a thread about a deadline over signature sizes? This was the best method for this website.

This is an internet forum, freedom of speech and all that bollox that you get in the real world dont exist on any internet forum. Its a private server and the person that pays for it decides what can happen and what doesnt happen and what methods are used to achieve that. So you can stick you "if this was a work place" analogy where the sun doesnt shine! :icon_mrgreen:

To be fair it says its a dictatorship in the rules.
