Good to see that his family may finally be getting the justice they deserve. The footage of the murderer is disgusting tbh, the way he acted is indicative of many Police sadly, hopefully he gets what's coming to him.

The only way justice will be done is when a charge of manslaughter is brought against the policeman in question, excessive and unnecessary force was used against a man who posed no threat to anyone.

Very touchy suject this one, however it is clearly obvious that Mr I. Tomlinson, at the time he was struck was not acting violently towards the officer, but he was in the face of the police who were clearing the streets having been bombarded with violence for some time prior to this. No one on hear knows what was said during this altercation, however I am pretty sure he will have been told several times to move on, yet he chose not to? why not? All of this will have been brought out at the inquest so lates wait and see before we all become judge and jury about the guy facing charges now, who incidently was doing his job and following his instructions.
One thing that I am not sure of, did Mr Tomlinson suffer from any underlying medical conditions that may have contributed to his unfortunate passing? as I am sure you will agree that the force he was struck with, and the immediate reactions, did not merit death?
And before you bombard me with hate and accused me of being this and that, I am merely giving my opinion, or is that not allowed? If not, I apologise, and will remove this post. -
Mr Tomlinson had been trying to make his way home for hours, if I recall correctly. He'd been turned away at several checkpoints by the police.
As for the guy who was 'doing his job and following instructions' - I wasn't aware that the police were under instructions to deliberately attack innocent and defenseless citizens. Remember he had his hands in his pockets, and his back to the police - it's hard to imagine a less offensive stance. -
format, your points are very valid, and not fully aware of the facts, i find it difficult for anyone to have a accurate viewpoint. That is partly down to the power of the media who have only shown this video, as you may well be aware that there was countless cameras working at that time, moreso than would have been at Manchester when they invaded and caused mayhem.
Was he turned away several times? I dont know.
Obviously the police do not get told to deliberatly attack people, if they choose to do so well they must be punished, but the guy involved would have been more than aware of numerous cameras in his face filming his every move. -

i think its abhorrent the way this man was treated, an they way in which the police officer acted throughout the day. i hope his family find justice through a fair trial.
on the other hand u never know the police man could be popped off during the night and dumped in the sea the way things are going atm. -
The Police and Government have done themselves no favours with this situation. Had they just adherred to the law and had a criminal trial in the first place they could have saved some face.
Instead they have made a half-hearted attempt to give the family some sort of reason for the death. The impression given here is that they are above the law and this is unacceptable, particulalrly when it lead to the death of a member of the public they are meant to protect.
Shocking incident and hopefully the right outcome will be found. -

A disgusting disgusting episode.I dont want the policeman to get life or anything, they were charged up for any possibility and eventuality....but he is clearly a bit of a loose cannon and he must be held accountable for his trigger happy attitude.

Police brutallity never ended in the 70's as so many people tend to think,it's still very real and is not uncommon where I live anyway. -

aye, tell me about it. got the * kicked out of me by two coppers in Dundee for taking a * up a sidestreet ffs. no exactly the great train robbery.
@mygirlmaria - they do do very dirty jobs - like baton charging innocent protesters, killing innocent newspaper sellers, charging at miners on horseback. when this sort of thing happens in Bahrain or Egypt or wherever they are 'enemies of democracy' according to our gov., yet when our police do it, they are doing ' an incredibly difficult job to safeguard our safety' or some bullshit like thatLast edited by a moderator: May 4, 2011 -

Regarding him standing with his hands in his pockets: Remember that standing with your hands in your pockets is likely viewed differently by a Police Officer than your boss at work. At work you're slacking, but a cop (or anyone else trained in security) will be aware of the potential dangers posed by someone with their hands concealed.
Having said that, there are proper ways of dealing with that situation and running up behind someone and pushing them to the ground with your baton isn't it. There needs to be a fair trial here as far too often cops are let away with things after the internal investigation.
I've been on the wrong end of dodgy cops myself and really wish someone would sort out the blatant corruption. -
