Realistically how many points would you say we need to go through this year?

Although it was only 1-0, Shaktar apparently ran riot with Benfica, could they maybe win the group? I think they'll give Milan and run for their money, esp in Ukraine.

Not getting over confident but ive got a feeling Benfica aren't as good this time round, I think we could take a point away (at least) if we keep our concentration for the first 20 mins! and our three at home with them.

I agree, I think we can take at least a point of Benfica but I rather hope we will come home with all three on this one

the result really surprised me last night and * knows I'm happy I have been proven wrong!!

Good thing is: AC Milan will have to beat donezk (twice!) and I'm confident they will. We need to beat Benfica at cp at all costs and a victory over donezk would be sexy too.

and if we start getting away points we will have a very good chance to reach the last 16 again.

Still it's a long way to the top and it will be a very close battle

I think if we play well and get a point in Benfica we can get 3 home wins too.
be good to get 10 points.
I'm probably a bit jaded by my celtic glasses but i think 10 points could be a realistic target!
WGS got his tactics spot on last night!
Scottish football is on the up

not surprised about Shaktar because both the recent game and 3 years ago we were taken apart by them like no other team has. I think they are the best team in the group this season. How we do will depend on winning all our home games (which I now think we can) and getting at least one unexpected away result. Benfica is our best bet for an away result. If we dont get at least a point in that game then I think we will be fighting for the Uefa cup place with them. If we get it then I think we will at least get the Uefa spot. But its all to play for.

I think last night proved that your opposition can have a big influence on your own performance. Milan was a big occasion, due to them being Champions, one of the best teams in Europe, and because of last year.

Look how we beat United but lost to Copenhagen last year. Or lose to Hibs but beat Milan.

If Milan beat Shaktar home and away, and we get 4 points from Benfica, then we'll be on 7pts, Milan and shaktar will be on 6 each. Then we have Shaktar at home, if we were to beat them we'd be through cause we'd be 4pts clear of them with one game to go.

But thats a lot of football to be played.

I think we are improving away. In our last three European away games we held Milan in the 90 minutes, drew with Spartak and played well for 70 minutes against Shaktar. That is a very good bunch of teams too. I think we have learned that you simply cant play open football away against teams that are technically better than us (most CL teams are).

I have to say that i now view Shaktar as the favourites to go through and Milan and us to be fighting it out for 2nd place. Shaktar already have the away win necessary to gaurantee qualification. Lets be honest, they ripped us apart and the score could have been 8-2. We must take something from Benfica away.

I think its all down to Milan whether or not we qualify. if they win their next two games we will be in a strong position. If they lose one and win one, then the last qualifying position will be between us an Milan over in Milan. If they drew both games, we'd have to go to Milan and not get beaten to go through I reckon. If Shaktar win both, they would be through, and I reckon it would again to go the Milan game where we could not get beaten.

I think if they play anywhere near the level they lpayed last night then Shaktar will beat them and i think there is a good chance that Shaktar could take something in Milan as well. It was a great result for us but i saw nothing in Milan that Shaktar would fear. Even Rino looked toothless.

Although what are the state of their injuries? Ronaldo is out, i think Maldini has been dropped.

Still think Milan is the strongest side even now when they ain't really on form at the moment. their class is permanent and they know how to deal with difficult situations. also that's what's the difference between a great club and an average club, they will get their results when they need them. no doubt they will win this group.

we need to hope for 2 milan victories against donezk.

    11-12 points
personally, i do not think shaktar will fail for the last 16 they've already got 6. i fancy them to take somthing from milan too.
    imo
shaktar will be first to qualify
leaving us and milan to fight it out

The next two games are key for both us and Shaltar.
Probably 9 or 10 points will see us through

I was thinking about it and:

Benfica Vs Celtic - Draw - 1 Point
AC Milan Vs Shaktar - Milan Win

Celtic Vs Benfica - Win - 3 Points
Shaktar Vs Milan - Milan Win

Celtic Vs Shaktar - Win - 3 Points
Milan Vs Benfica - Milan Win

This would leave us on 10 Points, 4 Points ahead of Shaktar who will only have one game left and 2 behind Milan.

This would leave us and Milan going into Matchday 6 both qualified the way we want it. We don't want to be going to the San Siro in need of a win.

I think we can even beat Benfica Away!

That's assuming they take nothing from Milan and we do the business away from home. Too many ifs and buts.

10 points imo 2 home wins and 1 away draw , Benfica would seem the best place to get it

it depends 100% on who we get these points suggesed from.
we could get nine, beating benfica twice but that'll not be enough to go through if milan win all there remaining games and just shaktar lose one.

With us winning last night and Donetsk looking so strong it is going to very hard for everybody in this group. I think you will need 10 points to get out of the group. We must pick up at least 4 points from the 2 games against Benfica. That gives us a good shot then going into the home game with Donetsk. But if we could win away to Benfica and then beat them at home I think we would be in great shape. But it will be tough as Benfica know the next game against us is do or die they have to win period. But if we can defend well and not give up any bullshit early goals then we might be able to pick them off as they will have to take risks knowing they have to win.
