The original centre spot was a cowpat from Athenry and the original nets were fisherman's nets from Killbegs. Its all true.

There is a great video made of the actual ceremony of the cutting of the turf and it's journey from Donegal to Glasgow. It came over in one of the Donegal CSC's supporters buses for the 1995 Scottish Cup Semi.

There was a ceremony at Celtic Park[which wasn't finished] and there was quite a bit of media there from Ireland.

That sod was laid on the centre circle of the pitch and is laid as a symbol of the origional sod which came from Ireland all those years ago of which Michael Davitt is remembered at Celtic for:celt_2:

I knew this since a couple of weeks. It is mentioned in the book "The Dear Old Paradise: The Changing Face of Celtic Park", written by David Potter. Very nice read btw.

Actually that is not right, or at least the spin is not true. He came to the conclusion that violence in itself was self defeating, and given how good the British were at infiltrating groups ultimately pointless. Thus we had in the 90's where the British all but ran the Unionist death squads who were liberally killing British citizens. And sadly with the help of Scapattaci aka steaknife in the pay of the British and nutting the good IRA men on Britains behalf, Britain was effectively all but running the IRA also who of course were also killing members of HM forces and drug dealers.

Makes you wonder just who the terrorists were.

I reckon that our esteemed chairman and former British Minister Mr Reid would probably have the British agent steaknife to turn over our sod of turf rather than a man who fought against British rule.

Such is the sad state of affairs our once principled club finds itself in.
