Hopefully the Barca w***fest on here, will now come to an end

just had an argument with a guy i used to work with who's in the green brigade who said the fans who applauded iniesta off the pitch last night were an embarrassment to celtic

 

Read an El Clasico thread or the La Liga one. Everyone slags off Di Maria etc then the same thing, playacting/diving/whatever, happens with a Barca player and they make up some bullshit excuse. It's cringeworthy.

Apologists is the correct term. They're everywhere.

 

I sense that this thread was started as the wounds of being whopped in two Champions League finals by Barca is still fresh in the memory of the OP.

I think the guy you used to work with is embarrassing himself with that comment in all honesty. Recognising and acknowledging a great footballer is certainly not embarrassing. It speaks volumes about our support when we can still applaud a fantastic player going off even when we are 1-0 down, and only makes me prouder to be a Celtic fans.

 

Barcelona is probably my favourite city on Earth, the people there are great and they love Celtic.

Just because they have a culture of being diving fannies who don't like being touched, doesn't mean we should bomb the nou camp ffs.

All the Barca fans applauded us out at the end, Pique applauded the whole stadium not just his own fans, and Iniesta clapped us when we gave him a standing ovation.

I think deep down even the most ardent Catalan was cringing when he saw Neymar does his cutomary seven flips, two barrel rolls and a 12 second writhe on the grass, before getting up and carrying on as if nothing had happened (because nothing had happened).

 

totally agree with you mate, it shows the respect we have for good football and good footballers and the respect they have in our club and it's history. Which is all what i was saying to him. Instead he was spouting that it was cringe worthy. To me the uber fan attitude you get from some of the green brigade is cringe worthy but hey that's another argument elsewhere.

i applaud good football and good footballers, be them celtic players or others(apart from the zombie's and mini huns of course :icon_mrgreen

 

I have more respect for Barca than Utd.

Rather than coming to Parkhead to sing songs killing Catholics, the Pope and Bobby Sands, as various English clubs have done, Barca fans have only ever been respectful of our club and its traditions when visiting Celtic Park.

 

you only have to look at the celtic twitter account yesterday with the tweets from them to see how bad it is.

There is no Barca wankfest on here. There is definitely an EPL wankfest though. When will that end?

 

I have tremendous respect for Barcelona as a club and what they represent and how they play the game. Players like Iniesta and Xavi are not just world class players they play the game with class.
What we saw last night from Neymar was that while he may be one of the worlds top players currently he has no class and I thought he deserved the treament he got from the crowd last night just as Iniesta deserved his ovation when he came off.
I have nothing but contempt for Neymar after last night and nothing but respect for Barcelona as a club.

 

Totally agree with this. Barca have players that truely are ambassadors for the game. Xavi, Iniesta etc are a joy to behold and play the game the way its intended. But there is a darkside to Barca. Busquets, Pedro, Neymar and Alves - despite his admirable gestures to Abidal- are all guilty of bending the rules to their favour. I will always applaud Barca for their style but there is a deceitful element to their play that will always shine through

 

It's a great city and class football team. neymar is an expensive mistake who doesn't understand the values and honour to play that great club. When I think of Barca, I think if Xavi, inesti, puyol, messi.
