A good few of Hoopers goals and assits came against the huns and in big european games.

Stats only tell some of the story.

It's common sense that a striker that is playing regularly is going to have a better chance of scoring goals than a guy that is played from the bench and given 1 game in 6 or 7 or whatever?

He did kick on massively last season, partially as a result of the focus placed on him by the management team, when he was still 2nd choice.

It's also common sense that a guy who can't nail a place down in a team generally isn't as good as a guy that could.

We're definitely getting the benefits of it now though.

Griffiths because you know he is motivated here and will stay loyal, Hooper saw us as a stepping stone to the EPL (nothing wrong with that he was brilliant here) but you could tell Hooper just got more uninterested as his time here went on.

Right now Griff. Hooper is/was probably the better footballer but Griff is fast developing, that scissors kick yesterday was special. The good news is he shows no signs of wanting away either so Griff for me as he will only get better.
Our next '100' striker and given he has years ahead of him he can get further up the GS table as well.

Hooper and I don't think my opinion will ever change. I think he is just a better all round footballer and finisher.

Griff for me. I liked Hooper but he doesn't entertain me as much as Griffiths. I always feel something might happen with Griff as he's a bit more of a maverick. I'm always just wanting him to shift the ball and get a shot off.
I'm not too interested in the shots stat comparison as they're very much different strikers.

They are completely different types of player. I think Hooper v McDonald would be fairer.

Although that shots to goal ratio by Hooper is fantastic - perhaps showing that he got his chances closer to goal?

In the same squad aye. In different squads, it isn't common sense at all.

John Hartson was 3rd choice for Celtic for a long time...

Solksjaer and Sheringham were 3rd and 4th choice for United for years...

If were talking about who done a better job for us then were obviously gonna have to wait until Griffiths isn't with us anymore so we can compare each their Celtic careers. But if we're judging on who the better player is right now then id have to give that to Griffiths, last I heard of Hooper he went to Norwich and I haven't seen or heard of him since :shamrock:

Both were competing mainly against Tony Stokes though.

    Griffiths.

I find him far more exciting to watch than Hooper and their stats for real goals are relatively similar.

The fact that we're still making comparisons to Gary Hooper says something about the mark he left here. I think the support was just generally more comfortable and confident with Hooper on the field. Hooper for me.
