Celtic Defender Andreas Hinkel Undergoes Successful Surgery - Goal.com

I would be very happy if Hinkel got came back from his injury early because i've not been too impressed with Cha at all tbh. Hinkel definitely has his weak points but I feel like I probably didn't appreciate him as much as I should have when he was a regular, it's easy to under-estimate the value of a full back who is composed on the ball and calm under pressure. He also gets forward just as well as Cha and they both put decent balls in the box. I think Hinkel offered a much better balance to the side than Cha though, who seems to be very uncomfortable with his distribution. If Hinkel comes back this season and gets a short run of games, we should give him a new deal:50:

big time follower of the german national team are we?

Hinkel v. Cha is an interesting debate for me

Hinkel is composed on the ball. Cha is fast

Hinkel can make a better pass. Cha is strong

When Hinkel gets forward he has limited ability to get back to defend. Not only can Cha get back to cover his own wing, but I've seen him get back to cover for the centerbacks as well.

    Cha is more mistake-prone

For me, its close, but while I think Hinkel is the better all around player, Cha offers a lot to our defense in terms of covering.

a classic footballer vs. athlete debate. At any rate, all the best to Andreas and hope he gets healed soon.

Hinkel every day of the week, technically superior. Would like to see him and izzaguerez bombing up and down the park as our fbs whipping the crosses in.

This is good news - be great to get Hinkel back.

As well as being a better footballer than Cha, the thing that people often omit to mention about Hinkel is how much his professionalism is admired among the squad. He's one of the most popular and respected people at the club.

Would make an excellent captain imo. :50:

Brilliant news, I'm a fan of Hinkel, under-rated by so many Celtic fans.

i think Andy is one of our best players, he's also our most experienced, played in europes top leagues for big clubs where the pressure is always on plus champions league and his country, not many in our current squad can say that, so comfortable on the ball, Cha doesn't give that impression at all, hope Andy's back before the season's out, would hate to see him leave on a bosman seeing him in the hoops again, German's never let you down :50:

Certainly the temptation on the media and doctors part would be to write off the season because he may well be out for like 80 odd % of it for example. But that doesn't mean that it can't be the case that he just puts himself in the frame to make a few apps.

I wonder if it's insurance that pays for his re-hab/surgery, he went to see Steadman in California like Maloney & Kennedy, this is quite expensive.

If Celtic thought he would be out for the whole season, would they pay for his teatment? As by the time he's fit, he'll also be eligable to sign a pre-contract.

I would like to se him get an extension, but he's on good wages & it was obvious Lenny wanted to sell him before the injury.
