Sutton did not get the credit he desrved as good as larsoon , IMO, no! , but a grat player yes he was. He scored in big games i.e the sutton chip, and scored a plenty in the champs league.

However i do not think we have had time to comapre him to jan, jan ahs already scored in champs league away to a team that is playing really well, he has scored 14 so far but has not produced as much in the old firms the 1 i think he has played. Howver i think Jan will be similar to sutton when he gets up and going, and they are already like each other as therye always bloddy injured!!

Once JVOH has had a full season or one with fewer injuries we'll be able to decide!

Sutton and Larsson we're for my money the best strike partnership we've ever had. They both complimented each other perfectly, and if one was injured we had Big Bad John to step in who was as clinical as they come. Each one of these players had their flaws (yes even the Khing) but with the three of them in our squad we we're always going to be winning things.

If certain people want to focus on the negatives then that's fine, but in my opinion all three strikers we're out of the top drawer when playing for us.

Whether JVOH can become the vital player for us that Sutton was remains to be seen, but there are definitely a LOT of similarities between the two. Hopefully with a good rest in the summer he can come back fully charged and start fulfilling his potential. I know some people disagree but my monies on him pulling it off, but that's just the kind of guy i am :celt_2::shamrock:

From a skill and fitba standpoint I can tell already that Sutton had more talent than JVoH has, however its not negative its fact that Sutton was NOT available or overall fit enough to have been an advantage of any needed importance.
If there is any doubt in what I say, I refer you to the club Sutton is at now, Aston Villa, what advantage of any degree has he been there?
    Case closed! :84:

Sutton scored the winner on his debut v Dundee United in 2000, and in his first Old Firm match v Rangers he scored the first and last goals in a dramatic 6-2 victory for Celtic over Rangers in a match tagged 'The Demolition Derby'. It was even more unusual in that in a press conference before the game Sutton was asked why he was here in Scotland. Sutton said: "To put Rangers in their place." [1]
Sutton's goals helped Celtic win three SPL titles, two Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups, as well as reaching a UEFA Cup final. Sutton formed a prolific partnership with Swede Henrik Larsson, one to rival his earlier one with Shearer.
Sutton is on record as saying Henrik Larsson is the best player he has ever played with.[citation needed]
Sutton also holds the record for the quickest goal ever in an Old Firm Clash, scored at Ibrox in 2002, scoring inside just 18 seconds
Sutton was voted SPFA Player of the Year for Season 2003-2004.[2]

    From wikipedia...

HE PLAYED 196 GAMES FOR CELTIC SCORING 86 GOALS INCLUDING 16 EUROPEAN GOALS HOW MANY OF THOSE GAMES DO YOU THINK HE PLAYED IN MIDFIELD OR DEFENCE? HUBERT DO YOU THINMK THAT IS A BAD RECORD?

196 out of a possible how many games did he play, and how many seasons?
My contention IS his latter seasons, he is a very fortunate man getting verygood money for very few games in his latter seasons. :87:

Like your post. It says exactly what I think.
Top drawer player Sutton was and hopefully big Jan can stay fit and find a good partnership upfront which will last for a few years.

If he was at Celtic 5 seasons, and he played as you say 196 games, thats approx 39 games a season, somehow I doubt that or if you like how many games did he play in his last two seasons, also I mean full games, NOT part time like he was?
Sutton was signed by Chelsea for 10 million and I saw him play yes he was skillful, they let him go for a helluva lot less, my point is NOT was he good or not, my point is he was not in the end good enough to be paid what he got.
He more than overstayed his welcome.

i think we need to see JVOH playing at his best which i dont think he has been so far because of injury before we can compare the two but i think at the moment none of our other strikers are anywhere near sutton atm

let me rephrase it for you then do you think 196 games scoring 86 goals is a bad record? keeping in mind that at least 20 of these games the player is not playing up front?
