There's obviously a reason we're targeting him , I'll give him as fair a chance as any player. He is playing at a team low down the league, so of course his metrics might look a bit *. Some good coaching and training with better quality players might do him the world of good

I'd take him, cheap and a dribbler and passer of the ball which could suit us in the League.

He seems quite well rated at his team or off people in Japan, if you look at tweets about the news from japan they are all replying for him not to go, not to go to the Scottish League or Celtic and wait to go to a better League or top 5 League.

Seen a comment saying Celtic is a graveyard as nobody from Japan has left us to one of the top 5 Leagues lol saying Celtic are good but the rest of the League are the level of the Vietnam League.

Guys saying that if he goes to Celtic and doesn't get a move from there to a better League he won't be picked for the national team or that he's giving up playing for the national team for money or that he shouldn't join us until he is playing for the national team.

Anyone who says it's a good move for him or that people reply to them saying we are a graveyard and nobody has made it out of us to the big Leagues, saying Hatate, Nakamura, Maeda all got stuck here lol and people saying he should move to Germany, Belgium or Holland.

We seem to have a bad reputation among their football fans like all their players that come to us don't get big moves and that our League according to their media and national team manager the Scottish League is weaker than the Japanese League.

People are saying also that it's dangerous for him to come here as we are rich and won't let him leave.

I've no doubt he's good on the ball. Most of that league are.

It's everything else that concerns me and makes me wonder what we are thinking with this one.

If he's a utility player for the left side with 3 potentially 4 CBs leaving then aye that's fine. Even then we could probably have pushed the boat out a bit more. But time will tell.

I don't mind a few cheap punts now and again but I hope it's not something we are going to be doing continually again..sure fire way to building more deadwood down the line.

With the money we have in the bank any signing like this is going to be treated with scepticism tbh and on some occasions its probably deserved.

I’m not huge on this move. A defender in the SPL needs to be dogged and have an aerial and physical presence. I’m not sure this guy looks as if he is either of those.

We should pay the money and bring in established quality. Wouldn’t even be opposed to a loan with an option to buy if it meant bringing in someone with a bit of a pedigree.

The last left back we signed from
That has turned into a great centre mid Hatate.

hopefully he falls into that bracket

One thing to say is I can’t see us running with 3 left footed centre backs so if he is being brought in to play there and not left back could one of Trusty or Scales be for the off? Either that or are we putting him straight out on loan and where too? He’s 23 so it’s not like he is a youth player and he won’t adapt without games.

Interestingly I would say his strengths are CCVs weaknesses and vice versa but unless we upgrade on height elsewhere in the team defending corners and crosses becomes a major worry with that pairing.

His passing is undoubtedly very impressive. And he looks very cool on the ball, will be good at beating presses etc.

I find it hard to believe he is going to be CCVs partner though. That's if CCV even sticks around.

Will be some step up for him if he joins playing with our players. Currently his centre-back partner is Michael Fitzgerald a 36 year old from New Zealand who is that bad he only got 3 caps for New Zealand 14 year ago, he's spent most of his career in the lower Leagues of Japan.

    Bizarre signing.

Thought we had learned our lesson after Kobayashi and decided to stop going back to this particular well

With regards to signing developmental players:

    1) If there’s a young(ish) talent out there that can be developed, we shouldn’t ignore them just because we have a youth setup, especially if it’s in a position where our own prospects aren’t showing any particular signs of making the grade. We shouldn’t bloat the squad with these types of signings, but, as I said in my previous post, there’s nothing wrong with the odd speculative punt.

    2) As a club we’ve consistently shown either a lack of interest or an inability to bring through our own youth prospects. A few lads are given a smattering of cameo appearances in May, if they’re lucky, or they get some decent minutes in pre-season and then they largely get forgotten about in the vortex that is the Celtic Colts for the rest of the year. Frame & Anderson were being touted as genuine prospects for us at LB, one got a rather pointless loan to the Austrian second-tier and the other has been dossing about with the B-team. Instead of potentially preparing one of them to step up as Tierney’s deputy, we’ve seemingly decided to just go out and buy a second choice LB (with the most credible link being a decent-ish, if unspectacular, Hearts player). You could also apply this to other positions in the squad. The club seemingly prefers to go out and sign outside players to develop as squad options, rather than utilise our own youths.

As for us signing a Japanese player ready made for the starting XI, I never suggested we couldn’t. It’s not an either or situation anyway.

To be fair mate, while there’s undoubtedly folks expressing surprise based on his current lack of physicality, a decent amount seems to be coming from the fact he’s still relatively new to the professional game.

I know you’re saying he’s already at a disadvantage in terms of the typical profile of a defender in European football, and I can appreciate that, but maybe he really does have the makings of something special. In 12-18 months he might be a lad with a decent pass, but is getting slapped around by a 17 year old playing for Dundee United, or he could be on track to be the Japanese Puyol.

Based on the video posted the other day I’d be happy to see us go for Takai as well(when I first read that we were being linked with a Japanese defender, I was hoping that it might be him) but given the likely outgoings and potential shakeups to our defence, I think there’s room for both - and that’s before you factor in Inamura apparently being immediately loaned back out.

Obviously we have no idea how long the negotiations have been going on behind the scenes, but based on how quickly it’s gone from McGowan reporting our interest, to Japanese media seemingly saying he’s either undergone or is set to undergo a medical, it seems like it’s been a fairly straightforward negotiation. Given that we’ve apparently signed Osmand, are down the road with Nygren and are seemingly pushing for deals elsewhere, I don’t think it’s diverted our attention from the more immediate need for first-team ready quality.

What I picked up from his clips, is he's a really good passer and ball carrier.
I would go as far as saying he would be an asset in that regard. We play against teams most weeks on a low block and for seasons now we have missed a player who can carry the ball, break the lines and commit the midfielders to engage leaving us space.
Last player we had like that was kris Ajer. Ccv does it sometimes but not really technical. This could be a massive tool in the arsenal. Get him in the gym bulking up a bit and up to speed of our game here and he will be grand.
