I am a fan of celtic first & foremost .I supported WGS & TM because they were CELTIC manager when you suggest fans deserved * times because they honestly believed rightly or wrongly that TM was the right choice ,or hating WGS makes them deserve what they got i disagree.
Unfortunately it hurts all of us.we all want the best for the team.
Very glad this isnt a gloating thread ,but how did you think/ know TM wasnt good enough

Martin O' Neill got the greatest financial backing of any Celtic manager, EVER.

Strachan got a shoe string because of the massive debt racked up during the MON era.

The same debt that has now crippled Rangers, we would have surely been in administration only for the changes by the board coupled with the success that Strachan brought to Celtic. Its not being dramatic to say that if he stayed on that road that we could have well been wound up as a company and no more Celtic. It got to a critical junction.

Strachan exceeded MON in Europe twice, what statistic are you going to try and discredit that with?

You can credit statistics to back up any theory worth mentioning, % wins dont mean diddly because you havent compared budgets, factored in inflation and economic growth of those figures, the change in financial strength of other leagues and the reductions in the SPL, blah blah blah we could here all night and get nowhere with them. The only stat that really matters is results/silverware and GS and MON stand even despite the huge difference in financial backing to each manager.

Strachan was key in getting our club into a strong financial position, one where we could buyout another managers contract for £2M + his assistant + 1st team coach, back his vision with money then be able to sack him when its not going right 9 months later. You might take that for granted but Liverpool cannot afford the compensation to sack Rafa Benitez and his merry men in the backroom.

You can block out his achievements, I'll be celebrating all the clubs successes, hard fought or a walk in the park, it doesnt matter tbh

Loved Strachan and was disappointed in how it ended.

Think he may have hung on a season too long, but then I reckon if the board had just pushed the boat out a weeee bit more in Jan 2009 and gave him the funds he needed, we might just have hung on to our title.

We gift-wrapped it back to the huns by not investing in the team when 7 points clear, a common trait of Celtic over the last 20 years.

Some incredible memories though, the determination he installed in the team was every bit as effective as MON and anyone that says he wasn't Celtic-minded, just watch his celebrations in this video:

sory disagree I remember watchin Strachan's team towards the end and have never been so bored in my whole life. He has to carry the can for the debacle we find ourselves in.

get real - Strachan was effective end of story. What happened in his last season was a disgrace. The Celtic team stopped performing for whatever reason. he was smug and his team was on a downward spiral. It was his team that Mowbray inherited. Mowbray cocked up but it was always going that way anyway.

And Strachan inherited MON's mess. So?

New managers always inherit problematic squads, its not a get out of jail free card when they can't do their primary function.

Mowbray changed things too quickly and criticized players in public. You call Strachan smug but it was an attempt to protect his players from the media and keep them onside with him. Obviously it didnt work but as Mowbray proved, slating them wasnt anymore effective.

Yeah because we all hate an effective team eh?

3 out of 4 titles, beyond the group stage twice in the CL entitles you to be as smug as you like as far as I'm concerned.

Mowbrays style of football was no better than WGS except the wee man knew how to dig out a win and get the best out of players.

yeah ok I say smug when he tells a female jounalist that he wouldn't comment on being pregnant therefore she should not comment on football. Not the kind of manager I want nior one that becomes our club. but hey we all have standards.

Really couldn't give a * what he said to journalists. When did a journalist, male or female, last do us any favours?

All I care about is the success the guy brought us, every season bringing at least one trophy and some brilliant memories.

The fact you even mention that tells me everything I need to know.

Yeah do you think Mr Stein would have done such a thing. No. But the fact that trophies mean more to you than anything else speaks volumes about you. Trophies and dignity. Not one or the other.

If it was "such a thing" why didnt Celtic sack him? Surely you despise Celtic for supporting him?

Not at all. I think he did a good job. But Strachan was not the kind of guy I was happy with.
