So Hartley didn't feature at all in the run in then. I believe he did.

C'mon man. give the guy the credit he's due. he was much needed in the run in. * sake. anyone who said he didn't play a big part in steadying up that midfield obviously dosn't watch celtic. simple as that.

I'll give you a very important one. The tackle that put Ferguson out the game as they were the better side at the time winning 2-1. Bawbag hardly went near the ball after that and the rest is history.

Well said mate. He plays the position that gets very little kudos by the masses but ask a manager or someone that plays the game, they'll tell you how valuable it is to have a player like that.

Of course he did, but its this 'Hartley and Robson won us the league' carry on that * me off.

Its just not true and while those two guys stuck in and played their part in winning the title, its not the answer long-term.

the thing about the hilding role is you know its been done right if the holding player isnt noticed

christ watch inter, how many times does estan cambiasso feature in the highlight none yet he keeps them together

claude makalele, when at real he was taken for granted he held them together, as soon as he was sold "the galacticos" fell apart and tried to buy him back.

Ah well if thats all it takes to play for Celtic, just give a shirt to any one of 60,000 season ticket holders who will happily take a life ban from the SPL just to mis-time a tackle into that rat-faced *

But he's not a holding midfielder and wont learn how to become one at 31.

He's a journeyman attacking midfileder who is clinging to his hoops by trying desperately to convince people he can adopt to a holding role by hiding in among the back four.

No one will convince me this guy is good enough, sorry.

think you'll find that its strachan thats asked him to try the DM roll and hartley has done it. very well.

    * sake. you actually think that he'd still be getting a game had strach sent him out telling him to play attacking?
hartley has came out a few times and said that yeah he was an attacking mid and now he's learning the DM roll, manager coming out saying he's filling tht roll well.

but naw, he's just an attacking mid scared of attacking?

At this moment in time, and for the last few months, I rate Hartley higher than Brown. I know Brown has had a masive loss in his family and that something like that can affect you. But, facts are, Hartley gave us more in the championship run in than Brown

So u think thats OK for Celtic?

The manager taking a failed 31 year old attacking midfileder (allegedly) (0 goals in front of Lennon) and saying 'yeah OK you were * in the advanced role but fancy a bash at DM? '

i think we'd get more from him if we tried him in the same role as he played for hearts.
i would assume we signed him because of his performances for the wee huns so why sign him then try and make him into a completely different player?

what do you mean 0 goals infront of lennon?

he wasn't ever given a run at playing the attacking mid roll here.
from what i remember we were playing with two DM's when lenny and hartley were playing. i only assumed that was because hartley was learning from lenny how to play the roll.
is it acceptable him playing DM?
depends on wether or not he's doing a good job.

Thomas Gravesen signed in August 2006 and scored 6 goals in 18 starts in the advanced role in front of Lenny. Celtic went on a record breaking run including beating every SPL team one after another in the first half of that season, fact!

Gravesen was dropped and basically sent into exile in January 2007 when Hartley signed. Hartley played in front of Lennon for the rest of that season in what can only be described as 'gouge your eyes out football', including 2 dire old firm defeats and 0 goals.

Its all fact, check it out if u dont believe me.

The guy is a dud, we need an inspirational ball-winner in that position, its not him.

You'll notice i said he was playing the DM roll WITH lennon? which explains why he hasn't scored that many goals.

Aw come on mate, utter pish!

So strachan told them both to play DM and played no one in the advenced role?

That was Hartleys job and he didnt do it. He was absolutely * awful and contributed nothing.

from what i saw yes, hartley was also playing in the DM roll. to me like i said, i think it was so he could learn the roll whilst lenny was still at the club. in many way's i'm sure hartley became lenny's apprentice. every game both players were sitting deep, it wasn't as if hartley was trying and failing in the DM roll. i don't think it comes down to him being scared ether, afterall he was our left back for a while too
