My point is that part of the reason that we have constantly been rebuilding is that a fair number of his signings have been failures.

I could understand if he never bought any good ones but that is not the case.

 

Where do I say that no manager other than WGS has ever bought a dud player ?

Why is it that people react to criticism of WGS by citing extreme examples that the critic hasn't even mentioned. Does ma nut in.

The point I am making is that in his fourth season we shouldn't be building, we should be built.

The reason imo we are still building is that too many of the signings have been duds.

 

I think your spot on martin in this thread, I love WGS , think hes done an absolute fantastic job and am disappointed he hasnt been rewarded with at least a banner by now but he still deserves criticism when he does something wrong.

As soon as someone slates WGS, even if their making valid points like Martin, theres this whole backlash, hes an idiot, bigot, never happy all this *. Its a forum to talk about celtic.

If strachan gets his tactics wrong, it deserves to be discussed, if someones not happy with the way he set the team up on the day or zonal marking they should be able to post their opinions, it doesnt mean they hate WGS, its just being critical and discussing the team the forum is made for.

 

Disagree with that. if cletic dont go out and buy new players in January or the summer there would be uproar from the fans.

Cant remember the last transfer window that we did not sign anyone.

Most teams will sign players in the transfer windows, its ok signing player between £5m - £10m but when you are working in the £1m - £2m bracket those signings are more of a gamble.

 

I agree they are more of a gamble. The success rate has still been too low imo.

 

Agree Martin some of his signings have not made the grade, but overall i think there has been more good than bad.

When you are working in the £2m market, most managers would not get it right everytime.

 

Maybe its because fans on here state things like he is the only one to get it wrong....The problem is lack of cash,if celtic had 30 million to spend then i'm sure we wouldnt be building a team after 4 years we would have it already done.We aint lucky enough to buy the ready made player while messing around with young players
But each year we have to take some young players and gamble with them and it takes a long time to go through all the maybes to find some good ones.

Would say you're using Artmedia as an extreme example. We went crashing out of the CL before with a terrible performance to Basel and that is nary mentioned around here. Remember the aggragate of Artmedia was 5-4 and only a McGeady (or was it Maloney) absolute SITTER sent us out. Of course it was a terrible performance but wasn't that Strachans first competitive game in charge?

The reason we are still building, and I know that you know this (and I reckon you're just playing devils advocate) is that we exist in a league where genuine first team signings are extremely hard to come buy. No amount of money or previous experience of that player can guarantee in the SPL being a good signing. Gravesen and Jiri being a case in point - could cut it in ENgland but not Scotland? What's that all about and I'm sure Strachans thinking the same thing.

Arsene Wengers been at Arsenal for roughly 4 years since the untouchable side and they are still a work in progress are they not? What makes you think 4 years is enough to master a side? Took Sir Alex far longer than that and that includes Sky money.

 

some signings are duds but you must remember that happens with evry manager not just strach

some are dud but sum are now superstars

Gordon is the best manager weve had in decades and you cant disagree with facts can you, some may not like him but they cannot acuse him whilst hes doing the best for the club than any previous manager has since BJ

i think the haters of him on here are just annoyed how things are going some weeks but they wont be when him and the celtic squad are thrusting the SPL title into the air at the end of the season - which i am POSITIVE they will do

He is a fantastic manager and he will become a legend at celtic ,the longer strachans time at celtic the better . Hail hail strachan

This thread was only ever gonna go one way and to be honest, the 'pro-wgs' threads are just as tiresome as the 'anti-wgs' ones.

The manger deserves credit for what he's achieved but will get criticism from me when its deserved, its really that simple.

Yeah great manager, doing a good job statistics are there to be seen.
Although we need a left back, he needs to stop going after midfielders!

 

Same with when the Strachan dis-likers post thread slating him they get abused, this type of thread should not be allowed as its simply to wind up the others
