I honestly can’t believe the amount of folk here clamouring for him back. We can and should be doing much better.

He is a slightly better version of Idah, who is also 6 years older than him.

 

Anyone at all surprised by the entire contract and transfer situation with him?

He knew we was waiting last minute to sign and get a bargain. Absolutely typical of us leaving things late. The club will tell us it's waiting to see the euro comp or lay of the land because players have options. Reality, it's us waiting as long as possible to get them cheap.

Offering a * contract with a promise he does the job, we will reward him. With £1k more? No wonder he was disrespected.

Don't think it was about money either, same for Josip, just a fair wage.
Something we really need to get good at.

It's one thing saying prove it after a season, but you wanna keep good talent, pay them a decent wage for their job.

I'd take him back, with a chance to earn that no. 1 spot with some starts. That being said, I am turning into a Celtic board member, because the reason for wanting GG is the same as wanting Kyogo: can't be arsed scouting an expensive no. 1. striker. Okay, I'm also sentimental about Kyogo.

 

I thought GG should have had more game time when he was with us tbh. Ange didn’t treat him well and favoured Kyogo. But I thought the big man was great for us

 

Thought he was a good player for us, but don’t want him back.

 

Kyogo was phenomenal that season and dropping him was tough because he fit perfectly into the team. I don't think he was treated badly, he just wanted to play first xi football week in week out, which he wasn't getting. Had he stayed I think he suits Rodgers better but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I wouldn't be fussed if he came back or not. At 30 he probably knows he isn't going to a top tier team to be first choice though.

 

I think Idah is a good bit quicker and better with the ball, but Giakoumakis was a far better finisher and header of the ball.

Not saying I'd bring him back mind you unless Idah is leaving.

 

He seems like hard work.

Hard pass. Decent player but just don't see it working out for either side on multiple levels.

Nothing to say he was our top target either so not sure how relevant to us it is no one else was interested in him before we made our bid. That's not really our fault.

 

I'd be careful of assuming that the fault was all on our side.

Why ask to negotiate a new contract if you're already changing agents and looking to leave over game time? By the same token, would we really be so naive as to offer £1k pw more to a player we actually valued and wanted to keep?

It sounds like he wanted an excuse to demand a transfer and we happily gave it to him. Both sides were done by this point.

What I do buy is that he was never going to start ahead of Kyogo under Ange. We could all see that, we didn't need to be in the dressing room. He was undervalued by the manager for sure.

This exactly. He's a sulky wee * and players like that poison a dressing room. No room for prima donnas or shitebags at Celtic. We need hardworking players with character.

One thing he has that Idah doesnt have is GGs ability to completely cause disarray in an opposition box, using his strength. Idahs a kitchen mouse by comparison.
