Will Samaras ever leave Celtic? When I think of the decent players we have who are getting paid about half of what he is I am truly disappointed in the club. Should never have been given a new contract.

Samaras lacks consistency. He needs to string a couple of good performances together to gain acceptance from the support as a whole.

What has Bangura done to merit him a spot in the starting 11 period?

Thats the question I have. Sammy has scored goals for us. Bangura hasn't. Let him get one in in free play as a sub, then we'll start to look at him as a starting player.

What Samaras lacks (amongst other things) is the ability to make good decisions. It's a pity, as he has great physical attributes. The combination of the two results in one extremely frustrating player.

what tripe. Sammy did well. He was played on the left and held it up and linked well. You could see Madrid were not comfortable with him and often had several guys around him. This Sammy hatred is a disgrace. The fans are really letting themselves down.

Anybody who knows my posts knows i dont like sammy the player, as a man he comes across as a lovely guy, but even i think he deserves the chance ahead of bangura
Ideally would rather start with stooper, but that wont happen, if it aint workin with sammy put bangura on early 2nd half

They're just opinions. Lots of them.

And I don't think it's hate, a lot of people just don't wan't to see him play for Celtic anymore.

Last night he did play well though. Against the huns in the 2-0 games he played great. Against the huns in the 3-0 game he played great. Against Inverness he got a hattrick, and on the last day of the season showed his passion on the pitch, and scored a goal for good measure. The Samaras haters act like he never plays a good game, when he does. They think not scoring means not playing well.

didnt catch the game last night, but from reading a few posts about it it sounds as if he played well, so well done to him. but for the OF game, i seriously hope he does not play. id rather have a not 100% stokes or unknown quantity bangura than samaras.

He is a very frustrating player ..Fans are going to have different views on players Sammy being one of those ...You mentioned a few games there they have one thing in common ...They were easy games for us and we won easy in them .....He thrives on confidence and this was what Lennon said if the games are going our way he plays better ..If its a close game or a hard game he struggles ...

I dont hate Sammy, I love Celtic and this persistence with playing him just is getting absurd. Hasnt scored in what? 20 games now?

He has been played in this flawed formation to accomodate him and it simply isnt right for our side. He didnt play badly last night but the reality is its another game in Europe that we have lost. Same scenario at CP when we played Sion and he played. Sammy could play from now till the end of the season and never look like he could score.

I am more concerned about how persistent and stubborn Neil is with this set up. Its not working. It doesnt look like working. More frustratingly is that the majority of fans knew that against Sion at home if we had gone with our more successful 442 formation we would probably have beaten them. Probably comfortably.

Our side wont learn anything against any team playing a stilted, defence minded 451 set up. Its not in our players make up. Forrest is a player at best going forward, Hooper was isolated up front. No, its not working. Our players play well in a 442 set up and we would learn more playing this against a side away from home, and perhaps hone it and make it a bit sharper for the SPL, where we were not expected to get anything instead of playing this alien formation that the players dont look comfortable with. And zonal marking is useless against decent sides who will simply exploit it in the penalty box as has been so cruelly exposed so often.

Sammy wasnt bad last night, far from it, he was actually almost okay, though unsurprisingly he didnt have a strike at goal, which all our other midfielders and Hooper managed.

I dont hate him, but yet again he is played in a formation that we are told is best for the team, but again we dont get a result. Perhaps its time to accept that he isnt capable of helping us get these results.

At 1.0 we had an opportunity for changing the game and going for an attacking set up to put more pressure on Madrid. Bizarrely we took off Ledley, a natural left sided midfielder, who has scored more goals than Samaras, and left the big Greek on.

I have said all along that Neil wont be judged in Europe and his goal will be the SPL, but surely we cant honestly sit back and say that last night is good enough when there were clearly things that the side could have done better.

And hopefully we will have Stokes back for Sunday and we will play a more positive line up.

I watched the game again and I would say Sammy was excellent. Not just decent but excellent. Up there with Ki and Kayal. Certainly among our best 4 performers last night. I think people just automatically go to the Sammy or Broony threads when we lose. Sammy really played well. He was ten times better than Forrest or Hooper and was our best attacker. I cant take this thread seriously.

If its flawed formation then you need to start a thread critiquing Lenny not Sammy. He didnt pick himself.

Samaras was our best player yesterday I reckon. Still reckon we should of sold him though in summer.
