Just back from injury but that was absolutely dreadful from Sammy tonight. He got the goal but we just aren`t a fluid team with him starting. Should have been him going off for Hooper

I thought both Commons and Samaras did well tonight.

Samaras kind of got a goal and everything.

    Great goal tonight.

Played away from his best position as well.

    Happy to have him back.

Samaras takes 2/3 games to get his touch back. He was on tonight and he'll be on at the weekend, with a * touch for Juve. He scored tonight, he will be frustrating on the weekend. He'll be amazing in Turin.

    We'll call it good management.

    Somebody quote this post, eh?

The goal he scored papered over what was a rotten performance. I suppose that is why he is so frustarting. He had done nothing until the goal. He wasn't alone in that category though.

He was absolutely gash last night, apart from the goal of course. Nearly as bad as Commons.

He was worse than Commons. Commons bad game was due to him losing the ball a lot but some of the reasons for this were the severe lack of help from Samaras.

Samaras, ive said it a million times is one of the stupidest * ever to kick a ball, he has absolutely no game intelligence whatsoever. He is a 1-man team of a player, who if someone is running with the ball near him he will chase, if you punt the ball up close to him he'll try to flick it on and if you give him the ball on the deck he will try and run down the wing and put it in the box.

But other than those 3 things he hampers the team. He is clueless as to how to drag players out position to give other players space, clueless at reading were the ball will go, clueless movement to get into space to recieve a pass and clueless as to where a player wants a lay-off from a 1-2. He gets in the way of other players and annoys them quite a lot imo

You often see frustration from Stokes, Commons and Hooper about his lack of a clue what hes doing and they dont trust him to link-up with them in moves.

In Europe where he gets more space and is more respected because teams know he is big and fast he does well but in 90% of domestic games he hinders the team from playing and opening up the opposition.

Should also mention how he makes Izaguirre redundant too.

Players just dont have a clue what he will do, which causes frustration, waryness and generally disrupts them. The only player who actually plays well with him is Ledley because Ledley's job is more to cover for players and he can just make sure Samaras doesnt get caught out and leave his end wide open.

All other players, Izaguirre runs down the line or runs inside, Mulgrew cuts inside, Stokes pulls out wide, Hooper drops really deep, Forrest makes runs inside or down the line. All this helps the team by moving players about and creating space but Samaras stands still constantly waiting for a pass and then when he gets the pass he always takes 2 or 3 touches, he blocks the left-side for Izaguirre to get forward and makes it easy for players to pick up Stokes or Commons as it was last night because he is causing no threat and 1 guy can just stand near him.

I think your points are valid but I think you're being a wee bit harsh on him. For a while now I've thought of him and Stokes as being similarly useful in European and domestic games. Stokes relies on having time on the ball and is decent enough with his footwork and pinpoint passing to open up tight defences which we need a lot in the SPL. But put him on in a game where we are chasing it and need to do things at a higher tempo and something happens to him where he panics and makes the wrong decision. His decision making is usually superb when he has time, but if we are losing he goes alone or tries to take on one defender too many.

By comparison Sammy relies on the wide open spaces that our counter attacking style in Europe brings, and also for some reason the lack of time on the ball you get in Europe makes him play better. To put it simply, Sammy overthinks things when he has time on the ball, and Stokes overthinks things when he has to do it all quickly. Which is why they're both pretty key players for us but never in the same competition. Hypothetically you could play the domestic season and not miss Samaras and play the European season and not miss Stokes.

He infuriates me several times a game, I cant handle it. I dont understand how a footballer and quite a good skilled player at that can be so bad at knowing basic stuff.

He needs a teacher to teach him that if he would just make simple movements he would help everyone. A footballer should never stop moving, Xavi the most intelligent player in the game doesnt have any pace yet covers more ground than anyone by constantly being on the move, dragging players around, creating space for others and he obviously has the vision and ability to do anything he wants with the ball.

Rubbish, he's great at picking a pace across a defensive line to a player at the back post, and weighs passes brilliantly for through-balls.

I think this used to be valid with Hooper, but not in the last 12 months. Stokes, I believe, has a serious attitude problem, and is always moaning about something on the pitch. There's a reason he isn't in Neil Lennon's first team for important games.

I find big sammy a frustrating player, but so vital when hes on top of his game when not.... he can be the worst player on the park.

He lacks that flair due to his height, but makes up for it in his ability to run past players. Notice that he is outstanding in majority of big games? I honestly do believe he brings 100% heart when he plays in huge games.

    I hope he ruins Juve.....

Time for Sammy to lead a Celtic comeback tonight and on the way back home get his shroud back.

Was just thinking earlier today how much I love the big man. He has always been a loyal servant to this club, even when he was going through a bad run of form he just took the punches, kept his mouth shut and kept playing, proving what his worth to this club is.

Sammy's bound to score at least 3 tonight. Surely?

I challenge anyone to give me 1 good reason why he won't. :icon_mrgreen:

Immense Champions League campaign from him. Hopefully we can hold onto him.
