Don't understand why Lenny is playing him as a striker, more specifically a target man. He isn't good in the air for a guy of his height - I mean actually winning headers.

He is far more suited playing out on the left, getting a chance to run at defenders.

Another european away goal for the Greek adonis!

Must be some sort of record for a celtic player to score 5 goals in 5 consecutive champions league games?

He got the goal aye but he was * awful tonight. It was one those games you get from him. Hope we don`t see too many more although I don`t think he is fully fit yet either

Georgios Samaras - The legend grows

After his magnificent header against Benfica from a magnificent cross from Mulgrew that was *cough* magnificently marked by Luisao et al, Samaras has entered Celtic folklore for the following 2 reasons.

    1) He has become the only man in Celtic history to score in 5 consecutive away European games, a feat neither the Lisbon Lions or Henrik Larsson could achieve.

    2) He has joined a now 11 man list of Celtic players to score atleast 9 European goals (D.Moscow (away), Hapoel Tel Aviv (away), Hapoel Tel Aviv (Home), Utrecht (Home), HJK Helsinki (away), Helsingborg (away), Spartak Moscow (away), Barcelona (away), Benfica (away) :

    1) Larsson = 35 European goals
    2) Johnstone = 16 European goals
    3) Sutton = 16 European goals
    4) Lennox = 14 European goals
    5) Chalmers = 13 European goals
    6) Wallace = 13 European goals
    7) Gemmell = 12 European goals
    8) Hood = 12 European goals
    9) Murdoch = 11 European goals
    10) Hughes = 10 European goals
    11) Samaras = 9 European goals

Mercurial, enigmatic, mysterious, talented, infuriating, lovable, sexy and simple Samaras. I can't wait for his testimonial in 5 and a half years time, it's written in the stars. :50:

I have to say he infuriated me the last couple of seasons but he has won me over. Always gives his all, isnt big headed or arrogant and has scored some really important goals for us. He showed loyalty to the club when he could have walked away, especially after some of the stick he got from the support. We have had better players but very few who have come through very bad patches to earn the respect of the fans like he has.

Definitely the next legend. Love the guy he is a joy watch with the ball at his feet running at defenders.

It's hard to believe that Sammy has scored in 5 European away games in a row, and yet hasn't scored an away SPL goal since January 2011 :smiley-laughing002:

Scary thing is, he could quite easily get to second in that list before he retires.

    The enigma that is Samaras!

I've grown to love him. He's had a right tough time of it since he came here.

3 of the 9 were headers, not that is at all relevant. Samaras is certainly one of the first names on the teamsheet, unlike the slow paced and too often ineffective Kris Commons according to some silly individual.

He has turned into a quality player that produces on the biggest stage.

An enigma is what he will always be though imo, he won't join the list of legends.

Laugh all you want, it's the truth. The fact you tried to imply that Samaras scoring 1/3 of his 9 European goals with his head is somehow a negative says it all. Commons is a passenger far too often and his goals - Bar a CIS Cup hat-trick infront of 14,000, it's all too absent - cover up his serious shortcomings. Too slow, his crossing has declined in recent weeks and he has done nothing of note.
