The Australian has made a right-back his top priority and Sheffield United’s Baldock – first linked by Record Sport last month – is at the top of the list.

It remains to be seen if the Blades will play ball and Celtic can strike a deal. Rennes defender Sacha Boey was another option but Baldock is the preferred choice.

Celtic have also asked the question about Nathan Byrne at Derby.

He has also been flagged up by Parkhead scouting staff but Postecoglou has still to give the go-ahead on that move.

Manchester City’s Japanese international defender Ko Itakura is another who Postecoglou is interested in, along with Australian international midfielder Aaron Mooy.

Itakura has just come off a successful loan at Groningen but City have made it clear that they want a substantial fee for any loan, as they have strong interest from several European clubs

If we haven’t already started negotiations with them I could see this dragging on.

Seems they’re being absolute * with anyone trying to negotiate with them.

With the reported £5m+ price tag for this guy I can't see us paying that for someone who effectively will have no sell on value and personally I think we could get a better player who is young and got great sell on potential

Would be a signing of intent, would still need a further addition to baldock.

We can’t afford to be landed with a toljan type signing again from desperation. Got to move quicker on these deals.

Would have very little sell on value but the board need to realise we need experience and that often means buying a player in their late 20's. He's 28 so has a good few years left in him yet, Id be happy with this if it went through.

Sell-on value won't be badly effected if we buy for now and flip next year! We'd get a patch, he'd get European football and winners medals (hopefully!) and we'd all make money in the mix... Not every player needs to be part of a huge strategic build. We can recruit his replacement in January or next year. It'd just take a change of mindset from us

I think if this one was happening, it would have happened.

When we see rumors and links drag on it usually means it's not a goer.

Shame, good player with good experience in a position we are desperately depleted in, and a handsome * fer the ghirls.

    Unofficially deid...

Journalist from Yorkshite Live during fan Q&A

“I keep seeing the reports of Celtic and Baldock but it’s just a non-starter,” Hemmingham said.

“Baldock has the same agent as Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou, which might explain why he’s being linked with a move there. But they have not submitted a bid. And they haven’t shown they have the finances to afford what United would want anyway, so this is going nowhere.”

A really decent FB who would massively improve our lineup , he would fit in easily up here and wouldnt cost silly money either but ......................the wise men in charge of recruitment at celtic would rather take a stab in the dark on some cheaper option from Europe rather than finally sorting the problem ....its honestly soul destroying watching and waiting on these clowns to do something sensible for a change !!

Five million is an absolute bargain in my honest opinion. Baldock was very good the year Sheffield United were up at the top of the table. Wasn't bad in the last campaign either considering how bad Sheffield United were last season. He is a no brainer and would be an instant success. However, we would rather buy some lad from Europe who may or may not come good.
