A threesome with Paul and Dev. :100:

    Dreams can come true.

At the end of the day lads we have lost goals and players far more important than Sinclair and kept rolling on.

I don't want to sell him btw :giggle1:

No signing is ever going to be a guarantee of success and as such has an element of risk but I think there are certainly players out there that can contribute to a similar (and better) level to Sinclair.

He didn't have a single goal or assist since Lennon came in, despite being involved in 12 games. Given the scrutiny that Lennon is under he's going to be picking players based on what they've shown since he's taken over. For Sinclair that's very little.

Lenny didn't start him much to be fair.

No doubt mate, I’d rather we replace them first before getting rid of him though. Commons and Rogic again being the perfect example.

He started him in his first 4 games back.

We’ll see, however, swapping a guy with his goals and assists for George Baldock just because we need a right back isnae going to wash.

I don't know much about this Baldock or his worth but if Lennon fancies him and it's around the same fee that we were considering as a biting point for Sinclair then I wouldn't be against it....as long as a LW is also brought in.

That’s the basis of my entire point though, Sinclair being valued at 2 or 2.5 million is laughably silly.

£25k a week x52 is about £1.25m. Do you think 12 months of Sinclair is worth £3.75m to Celtic?

I mean, I'm not desperate to get him out the door but it's not laughably silly.

I think it's probably fair all things considered to be honest.

Any buying club will know he is in the last 12 months of his contract and can be signed on a pre-contract in 6 months. They'll also be aware that he's out of favour and thanks to the leaked transfer document, that we're open to selling.

Based on his current form his prospective club isn't going to be any higher than mid-Championship to relegation candidates in the EPL and given they already look disparagingly on Scottish Football I can't see them paying much more for a guy who has recently struggled in our league and is now on the wrong side of 30.

    100%

It’s not as simple as that either, Baldock wouldn’t be coming here for nothing either...

He’s just turned 30 and Fulham bidding for Boyata last summer proved that clubs will pay money even in the last year of a contract.

In today’s market, 2 or 2.5 million is laughable. Nothing will convince me otherwise.

The money offered was incredible but Boyata was 27 at that point and off the back of several impressive showings at the World Cup, including a very decent game against England where he kept both Vardy and Rashford extremely quiet.

By contrast Sinclair finished last season very poorly and was being overlooked at the end for Jonny Hayes and Mikey Johnston.

Maybe that was enough for Lenny.

Which is reasonable given it was the business end of the season and Lennon was trying to get the job and coming under fire for us not scoring enough goals.

You're going to pick players that do the business for you and Sinclair was pretty poor in all 4 games. Lennon did give him other chances afterwards though, with no particular improvement in contribution by Sinclair.

Still, would still rather keep him, than punt for £2m - £3m.

However if he went I wouldn't be too disappointed, as long as we signed an exciting replacement.

It is that simple though. If we get rid of Sinclair to offset a £2.5m transfer, we are saving £3.75m for the year. He's not worth that.

Totally get where you're coming from with the Sinclair angle and he'd need replacing but it's not a laughable suggestion to swap him for Baldock IF that's the right back we have our sights set on.

Back in for him according to reports this morning, he’s still not signed a new deal on offer.

To be honest would prefer Baldock over Smith but it seems to be getting more difficult for us to sign players from the English market.
