Gavin Strachan

Celtic have opened talks with coach Gavin Strachan over a new contract, Football Insiderunderstands.

The son of former Hoops manager Gordon Strachan had been part of Neil Lennon’s backroom team before linking up with Ange Postecoglu.


A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Strachan, 42, is highly regarded by the club and is being rewarded for his role in the team’s transformation.




Negotiations are underway to secure him to a new deal and all parties are hopeful an agreement can be reached.




Strachan has previously coached at EFL clubs Peterborough United and Doncaster Rovers.

He joined Celtic as a first-team coach under Lennon in the summer of 2020.




Due to an outbreak of Covid in the Celtic camp, he ended up managing two Hoops games last season.




He served the same role under John Kennedy following Lennon’s sacking in February 2021 and was kept on when Postecgolou took over last summer (2021).

On 30 November, this site revealed Strachan rejected an offer to become the new Hartlepool United manager.

It is understood this was a huge boost to Postecoglou, who had raved about the impact of Strachan behind the scenes.

i think it was o'rileys cross that helped make the goal - hopefully more of these this season considering how much corners we will win they can be vitial - thinking winter away games trying to break a team down - early goals from corners can be a big relief and change the course of games.

great header welsh has that in his locker scored a few this time last season too do him world of good

I mean if he's actually a decent analyst of the group of coaches I guess he's worth having around.

I know it's not all about stats and numbers, but having someone around who knows how to use it and the feed to the manager like Ange who can then make use of it in his training and how to build a squad is actually of real use in today's game.

 

I think Lennon could have made Henrik look like a baddie in that last season. Lol
