Pay United and get him in now. Better to bed him in now for next season and, being a Scottish football fan, the money will help DU produce more players to help improve our game.

Ideally that would be the best thing to do but the way the board will look at it is that we have Tonev and Wakaso on loan til the end of the season so they will tie him up on a pre-contract then drop the loanees come summer!
Makes financial sense, albeit not football sense!
Although personally I'd just terminate both Tonev and Wakaso's loans and pay the fee to sign GMS now!

Everyone's points are totally valid, but for the cash we're talking about it's good to hear we're making a move to sign him up.

It might be on a pre-contract but i think that's maybe a daft thing to do. I think we need him right now.

It puts pressure on him having signed and then having to play against us. My guess is it gets United round the table, we have some money but also a lot of players we'd like to maybe get some experience or offload. It's also maybe in our interest for Dundee United to be able to beat Aberdeen.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Ack * it, we may as well. Even if he's not good enough he'll still deliver some exciting moments.

Worst comes to worst he can pretend to be Paddy McCourt.

I was desperate for us to sign him a few year ago, however, he has had a fair share of injuries since then. Hopefully those are behind him, and he can remain fit. No doubt that he has bags of ability though in my opinion, and for me, he is every bit as good, if not better than Forrest. I would like us to get him in this month though, and he would definitely fit into the system I feel, something which Deila needs to address. I like the set up, but we don't have all the players to fit into it, Mackay-Steven would be a start in that aspect.

Does anyone think we could develop him or is he too old? We've a fairly decent track record of improving players, significantly in some cases (Forster & Wanyama).

He was a couple years behind me in school in Thurso and is a Hibs fan. Little bit of GMS trivia for you.

I think we could. What you can't really develop much at that age is technique and creativity, which he already has plenty of. I think we could improve his strength, physical conditioning and defensive work.

You went to school in Thurso? You from there? I did a removal up there years ago, it's right away up the top Scotland, some mission it was. We done the job then went to a wee pub and got pished:smiley-laughing002: Nice wee place.

Only reason I've heard of the place is it was the answer in a pub quiz recently - "What's the most northern town in mainland Britain."

Didn't have a clue at the time but remembered it since.

This is a really weird one for me, I hoped to * we would sign him in 2012 when it was clear he had all the tricks and flicks but was too slight and had poor decision making which are things that can be trained.

I'm of the opinion he hasn't added anything from 2 years ago but on a free and given we've obviously spotted something in him he could be a good signing. Genuine width, something a bit different and would add balance if anything.

He's also in red hot form over the last few games, possibly because he's on the lookout for a move, which may prove he can be consistent when his head is in it.

He can look like a huff * and have the sammy about him where sometimes doesn't look arsed ..

I'd very worried with him out infront covering lustig..

Is he consistent or can improve? A lot more questions than answers for me right now..

Went stale at UTD for a wee bit now, think he needs a move. Could be a great signing.
