30k should be the top end.
Brown recently signed a new deal increasing his wage, Ledley looks likely to also. So it's only natural that hooper being our top scorer and one of our best players he should be looking at 25-30k. But that is it. I love hooper, probably more than some others, but we shouldn't be breaking the budget for him. 30k is what he'd get down at Norwich and the likes.

For me Hooper and Wanyama were the two players who eleveated us up another level. If we drew Sevco in a Cup and had those two id be confident of leathering them with ease.

Without Hooper and Wanyama, I think we'd still beat Sevco but wouldnt pump them like we would with them in the team.

Same goes for Europe with both them qualifying for the CL is just about a certainty. Without them then who knows.

Two massive players we cant afford to lose at once unless we get quality replacements but since we never sign quality then we need Hooper now and id only sell him either after the CL qualifiers or if we get atleast £7million so we could afford 2 good replacements.

In line with the top earner.

If it's not enough then so be it.

Doubt it. Norwich are now a richer club than us - they'll be getting like £60million just from TV money alone or have just recieved it, so whatever we can pay they can pay more. Where as we can only afford 4/5 £25-30k a week players and the rest on £5-20k, They could probably afford 3/4 £40-50k a week players :54: and the rest on £15-30k.

If he wants another crack this season he has to sign the contract, even if his intention is to leave by the following season, Hooper must know the way we work and id be left speechless if he left on a free.

We are going to pocket £12m or so for wanyama, which equates to two contracts at £40k a week for 3 years.

I am not for breaking the bank but if we are running the club with zero debt, selling guys on for £10m+ profit and we have any realistic ambition to try to secure champions league football every year I think we need to push the boat out a little to hold on to our top talent. Especially when you know you are going to get a good re-sale price on them when they decide to go.

I agree however Hooper's re-sale value will be determined by how well he plays over the course of the season. If he plays lethargically and un-motivated - he will never go for £7 million+.

Surely a small part of the £12.5m Wanyama cash can be used to give him the wages he wants?

Even if it's £30k a week he is on, * it. He is a predatory finisher, proven in the SPL, Championship and most importantly of all, on the European stage. Still only 25 too and we could sell him for megabucks next summer. Makes sense to me.

I agree really if he is wanting 25-30k just give it to him for another year even 6 months and then sell in January or next summer for 7-8M.

If he won't sign a new one even under those terms then sell him for 5M because i think thats the most we will get for him.

Its going to be * if we lose him now too. To lose him and Wanyama at once will be like getting kicked in the baws and the face repeatedly.

No it won't, it's the natural progression of things at a club like Celtic.
We have Kayal and Virgil van Dijk to replace them.

I've got a feeling he will sign a new deal, I hope so anyway.

IF we have to sell players we should be striving to losing only one big player at a time, losing Hooper and Wanyama in one window would be hard to replace.

I'll lose a lot of faith in our board if we choose to let him go this year. To get rid of our two best players says that we're happy to stay where we are.

Van Dijk? Do you mean Balde?

I must be in the minority but I think Hooper is majorly overrated. He's a good goalscorer but I reckon we could replace him, if John Park can work his magic.

I wont even be looking forward to going to matches next season if Hooper goes now.

I like to look forward to going to games knowing we'll see good players and have confidence in the team. With no Hooper and Wanyama I wont have confidence in the team, I wont look forward to watching us and just think it will be *, im getting flashbacks of the Strachan era.

I can't believe you are saying this. We have exciting new players like Balde, and Virgil in the door, some great young players in Watt, Fraser, McGeough and Forrest, and maybe one or two other signings still to come. Lots to look forward too, you will soon forget Wanyama and Hooper.

This is also my opinion. It wouldn't be the gaping hole that some make it out to be. When we need goals in Europe he's not the one we hope will pop up.
