And the fact you keep saying he was at fault wont make that statement any truer either :)

he maybe at fault for the goal with a * pass, but his overall game was * hes not good enough.
we were carrying about 4 players last night maybe more, the wonderful naka posted missing AGAIN in big games.

who cares how good barca was, a dont care bout them only celtic and if we want to be one of the best teams we need to play like it and have better players.

I thought Caldwell had a good game. He's a defender and he STILL managed to set up two goals. What's that? He was playing for us???!!!:84:

Naka was * too, as was Donati.:47:

Caldwell is an average player who we should expect average performances from.He doesn't deserve all the guff he's give but he doesn't deserve all the praise he gets either.Every so often he raises his game and puts in a good performance but too often he doesn't.If it were Bobo making half those mistakes he would be hung, drawn and quartered..
He's a guy who is getting exposed consistently down to his own mistakes but the worst part imo is that he is holding McManus back..

This is not a reaction to Barca either,a wonderful team and a wonderful performance.Did we get the ball in the 2nd half??

He has made too many mistkaes for the club, he should of been shown the door after Benfica 2 years ago. That goal may have cost us one of our best ever wins ( we may have lost anyway) but he has played in big games before and should of been leading the younger players instead of * up again

    Hi Guys,

I'd just like to say that I agree that our defence is *, but to be honest it always has been. For aslong as I can remember (I'm 23) we've never had a defence worth talking about. We've always been an attacking team with the mentality that we're just gonna try and score more goals that the opposition, especially in the big games. I think the fact that we took the game to Barca in the 1st half was a great credit to us a team, however, there is no excuse for what happened in the 2nd half. I recall on half-decent effort from Donati and that was pretty much it.

Also, does no-one else think that Artur should have saved the 3rd goal? A stronger hand would have tipped it around the post. Caldwell was pulling Messi down at the time and still managed to steer it round him.

Sorry mate but CALAMITY Caldwell cost us 2 goals and nearly another 3 FFS:38: HE IS *!

Naka was dreadful and Mcgeady ended up playing as a full back to cover Wilsons lack of pace, because of this he was taking the ball much deeper and his natural games fell apart.
Robsons runs into the box were excellent but he misplaced pass after pass as did Hartley, Donati, Naka and McGeady.
Samaras and McDonald got * all service so they cant be blamed for effort but Samaras can cut oot the diving.
Naylor was left one on one far to many times and was offered little protection from Naka and was ripped a new * time after time.

Yes they were all poor but Caldwell was a DISASTER as nearly ALL of us predicted might happen.:47:

    Good post Chucky.

Think your about right there. Too often he is exposed by top teams and also by silly mistakes in smaller ones.

It is worrying when your 2nd best defender on th enight was a 19 year old getting his 2nd start, and he was by no means outstanding.

I've said this all along, he is a useful squad player but should never be 1st choice. I'd prefer O'Dea to come in and get some experience rather than leave him in the team.

Although i don't get your comment about Bobo because i pretty sure this entire thread is hanging Caldwell out to dry.

Some of you who actually defend him are beyond my comprehension.

Why? Because he is a Celtic player?

Or is it because hes scottish ?

I am now retiring to get my tin helmet and man the battlements with you:84:

Blame Caldwell as much as you want but as long as WGS keeps talking to the press, believing he has a class back four we are all in for a world of pain. If you havent a solid foundation to buid upon then its gonna come tumbling down as it did last night. Remember George Graham and Arsenal? While I would not want to see that style of football at paradise it was the defence that was the bedrock of that team and look what they achieved, After paying £38 for a ticket i am sure there is plenty of money in the biscuit tin to buy some quality!

Mind you, 2 goals against Barca, thats more than most of us thought we would get if yer being honest.

Never mind Caldwell, Caddis is no where near ready to play at this level. He hasnt had 1 minute in the SPL.

I'm Scottish first then Celtic second but that's beside the point.

Perhaps Scottish players do get more leeway from some of us but is that so bad? I'm sure Irish players would as well (look at a certain Mr Keane's jaunt up here) and if it helps retain some of our identity then i'm all for it. In the late 90s we regularly only had Tom Boyd or Jackie Mac in the team as the only Scots and i wasn't happy about that.

But there are other reasons for defending him (not that i am)

    - He came on a free and the less you pay for a player the more accepting you are of lesser performances.

    - He is still relatively young for a centreback and can still develop quite a bit

    - He and Mick can develop a partnership with him as the footballer (legendarily so) and Mick as the commanding centreback.

    - There is no-one at the club better and we are stuck with him until the summer.

Balde and O'Dea are far superior to Calamity Caldwell so i dont agree that theres no one better already at the club.

Caldwell's slower than treacle and cant think fast enough, he also believes he is Franz Beckenbaur re incarnated ffs.

He is affecting Micks game and will never strike up a decent partnership with anybody because he just doesnt have it.

Proof of the pudding for me allied to his * performances in the hoops was when nearly every Hibs fan i know came up and thanked me when we signed him.

Its very apparent to me an outsider with no nationality ties to any current celtic player that there is a bias for Scottish players. Its so apparent and those who can't see it are not looking for it.

Balde, he isn't what he was but he is a lot better than caldwell and he gets more slack from these same individuals. O'Dea seems to get discredited by these individuals on a regular basis for no reason whatsoever.

Im really waiting for them to say start caddis over hinkel because I know I will see those threads popping up soon. :31:

I can go on and on about how many on this site treat scottish players better than foreign internationals. Just look last season many were calling for mcgeady to be benched or transfered but surprisingly I never saw anyone outside of Scotland say that... How Scott Brown is treated better than Donati, etc etc etc. Craig Beattie getting a lot more respect than Chris Killen ever did before Killen played his first match. I dont like killen btw.

This is not to say all scottish celtic supporters are like this as they are not. Like yourself. But there is a vocal minority on here that are. I know this is opening up a can of worms but Im just sick and tired of this crap.

I treat all celtic players equally because I have no international ties to any of them thus I have no underlying bias.

Why would I make this up? To those who are the above mentioned. You will deny this to yourself but it's true. I am an outsider looking in and its as clear as red flame or blue sky to me. I am not the only outsider who feels this way.

I wish i could disagree with you mate but i cant. Some of the other message boards are far worse than this one btw.
I cant understand myself why some of my fellow Scots on these CELTIC boards want to wear their Scottishness on their sleeves all the time.

I personally think some of them use huge Scots avatars just to try and get a reaction from others who still see the Scottish establishment as anti Celtic.
I also think some of these same people who are constantly having little digs at our Irish heritage have their own little agenda's.
