To be fair they did win the National League title in 2011 and reach the All Ireland semi-finals. Last year was a down year with relegation from the top flight. But really they did suffer a fair number of injuries to key players. I think Dublin hurling when at full strength can put out a very strong team. Not as good clearly as Kilkenny and Tipperary say. But pretty much up there with anyone else. The wekness they have is that while Dublin hurling has been on a clear up swing for the last 5 years or so and has a decent team now they don't have much depth as was shown last season when injuries just could not be overcome.
I think that maybe the next step for Dublin hurling is developing some depth to the panel so that they can consistently start to challenge nationally.

Agreed. I don't like either side, but I'd say Tyrone will emerge victorious.

I've decided to start watching some of this gaa stuff, I think i read that they do it at Glasgow uni? So thought I'd try and understand the rules and how the game works before I go.

Which teams do you all support? Are they your local side or just one you like?

GAA is a bit different than Soccer buddy,

There 2 different versions, Hurling and Gaelic.
Gaelic would be more widely played in Ireland

In club level most people support there local club.

The Senior All-Ireland is the 32 countys in Ireland plus London and New York so most people always support the county they were born in,
ie: I support Armagh, altho there * at the minute.

The rules are pretty simple, 15 man teams and you basically use your hands and every few steps you got to bounce or toe tap the ball, or kick or pass to someone else.
A goals gets you 3 points or if you hit over the bar 1 point.

Either are great sports to get into and are alot more physcial than Soccer.

Cheers :50: It looks quite fun which is why i thought I'd take a look at it. Not played much sport for a few years and looking for something a bit different to get in to, which this is.

I was a bit worried it might be uber complicated but watching it makes it seem like itbwouldn't take too long to understand.

Anyway I'll keep watching and see if i can take to it. When does the season run from and to?

County level the league is nearly over, and in June i think the All-Ireland series starts, the Cups the big one in the GAA.
No its pretty simple to figure out, no offsides in it.

Watch this clip, its from the hybrid of GAA and AFL (ozzie football)
The Irish lads will know this one, brutal games, fights everywhere :smiley-laughing002:
Altho they have cut out the fighting pretty much this last few years and its not as good to watch

Started playing hurling recently. I've kept to Gaelic football all of my life, and have to say I still prefer it. Nothing like striking a sliotar over the bar, though.

:50: Playing hurling just keeps me calm I think. Nothing more satisfying than sticking the ball over the bar

Well, apart scoring from a goal :icon_mrgreen:

Points are more satisfying, in a way, especially during scrimmages. Haven't had a chance to fully test myself against real opposition, yet. Goals seem easier to come by. I do not envy goalkeepers in hurling! :smiley-laughing002:

Premier Sports on Sky show the GAA games in the Uk I got the subscription last year for the all Ireland championship.
The other half is Irish and I didn't have a clue about the game. TBH I didn't even know the game existed! She made me the Dublin fan I am today. The whole day going to a game and back to the pub is brilliant great for families and for a sing song too cant beat the hill on a sunny afternoon in Dublin. I've been to a few local team games supporting the Ballyboden St Endas her family are all massive GAA heads and play for teams. Her oldest nephew is on the the Dublin under 21s so fingers crossed he gets through to the first team and helps bringing the SAM home.

Posted this a while back in this thread just a picture of everyone leaving the local heading for the buses match day a couple years back. Didnt win but still a great day.

Same match. Moved at half time to the hill. Still the biggest stadium I have been in.

I was looking to join a club in Glasgow a while ago and found a club in Glasgow http://www.glaschugaels.com/glasgow-gaels/ which looked quite good and fancied giving it a go. No doubt there will be something available local to you.

These videos are a great watch. :50:
