We should be more worried about the very real problem that a lot of our current fan base in Ireland is becoming disenfranchised for one reason or another, the extortionate price to attend a match, the offensive bill targeting people for singing about heroes from their homeland or the morgue like atmosphere at Celtic Park once you get there.

Instead of getting personal with one person over the internet we should be thinking of ways to entice these people back to Paradise, because make no mistake if we continue as we are going the fan base in Ireland (and Scotland for that matter) is just going to dwindle further.

I've always been a Celtic fan because like most people my dad is, but since I used to live 4 hours away and my dad never had a ST he never took me to a game until I was about 16 actually and that was for a Europa league qualifier, when we got knocked out by Ultrecht, won 2-0 that night but I remember there wasn't much of an atmosphere but I still loved it. It's obviously different for yourself since the club has changed a lot since your first experience but if your kid hasn't experienced any of it yet I think no matter the game at Celtic park someones first experience at paradise with their dad, uncle or brother or whoever is always special, just my opinion on it. It's sort of contradictory in saying there is problems with modern day support compared to 30 years ago, and dad's taking their kids to Celtic games and just like every other team, is a tradition that shouldn't be taken lightly and should be carried on.

There's really not much we can do to entice these fans unless we were to play in a better, more competitive league with a higher calibre of player.

I don't think atmosphere has much to do with it, just look at the atmosphere at Premier League games, barring a few it is non-existent.

To be honest I couldn't give a * if someone supports Celtic over here or not, we have a big support over here. I'd rather everyone followed their own teams here like the majority do in Scotland.

I think you need to get off yer high horse here. Just because you support a team for geographical reasons doesn't make you a better supporter than anyone else.

I know quite a lot of people who have an interest in Irish League football but hate Cliftonville. What do you suggest they do? Support no one?

Do you think Scottish people would accept a Scottish fan supporting an epl team? There are posters on here who expect every Irish football fan from Ireland to support Celtic because of the Irish connection.

They call all the Irish epl fans glory hunters because they don't support Celtic. They think just because someone wears a Liverpool jersey it means they have no interest in Celtic. I

The worst thing about it is most people who say these things are Scottish posters who have no clue about Irish football fans. . They wouldn't accept a Scottish epl fan but expect every Irish person to support Celtic and ignore their local team.

Lowering the prices so that the local community to afford to go to the odd game would make a huge difference. There has to be something wrong when the team is playing in front of 20,000 empty seats, yet you only need to take a walk around the stadium to find thousands of Celtic fans who cant afford to go.

Deliberately pricing out the local fan base generally doesn't make much sense, but it can work in certain circumstances. If you are punting a premium product and you think enough people will travel in order to buy it, then you can maybe go without local support. If the team was exciting, the league was high quality, and the experience of being at the game was fun, then perhaps there might be enough fans from around Scotland and Ireland willing to pay travel costs, and £27 for a ticket to watch Celtic vs St Mirren.

I am sure EPL teams like Man Utd and Arsenal couldn't give a toss if they are pricing out parts of their local community because they are luxury brands and people are willing to pay through the nose to be part of it. Celtic need to wake up and realise that charging premium prices for a sub-par product is not going to wash. Some people may want to go back but cant. Some may be able to afford it but simply object to pay the inflated prices (on top of the time cost, travel costs, food, drink, etc, etc). This is my opinion, and it takes me about 2 hours to go and watch Celtic. Expecting Irish fans to travel over every other week and pay over the odds is just daft, and no wonder so many of them are deciding there are better ways to spend their time and money.

Exactly. The elitism from people who support their local team really wind me up.

And that's coming from someone who follows Cliftonville everywhere.

People can support who they want.

Bohs aren't my local team, I'm from Tallaght. Fair enough you don't have to support your local team but at the end of the day we have a bad reputation as football fans for supporting foreign teams.

I actually don't mind someone supporting the epl as long as they don't bash our league. Supporting an Irish club will only help Irish football get better. We need more money put into the LOI to attract fans.

Most of what I'm saying is directed to the Scottish fans that expect everyone in Ireland to support Celtic that annoys more then anything. More Irish celtic fans travel to Glasgow then the Liverpool and Unied fans and they still slag off anyone who follows an epl team. That just makes me want us to stick to our own teams if people slag off fans from a country with very loyal Celtic fans.

what annoys me is that a lot of irish tell me how they despise the English and all their history and war crimes they done to the irish but when it suits them stand together with English supporters some who would despise their identity just because the in thing is to support the foreign epl

That's no problem mate. My posts are directed at the Scottish fans who don't think our Irish support is good enough even when more Irish fans travel to Glasgow then any other team in Britain every week.
