Look at the pictures of him, it really is the Fran Alonso show isn’t it?

He doesn’t “get it”, he just wants it for him. Wants the limelight instead of his players whilst praising them at the same time.

A five foot * all, self serving, all about me, show stealer.

He is the polar opposite of everything that Ange is.

I wish he would take his cream blazer and shove it in his mouth.

Fran Alonso could leave Celtic as he is a target for Mexican side Monterrey.

The Spaniard is the man Las Rayadas want to take charge after their boss Eva Espejo moved from the dugout to the boardroom. Alonso took Celtic within minutes of their first SWPLtitle last term before they were pipped by Glasgow City, and delivered the Scottish Cup with a Hampden win over Rangers.

He has been frustrated with the budget constraints at the club and could be tempted to make the move to Mexico. His side face Spartans tomorrow as they look to keep up the pressure on league leaders Rangers. Attacking midfielder Maria McAneny said: “It is our last home game of the year and we want to go out with a bang. The last two matches are going to be hard games, but we just need to go out there and take all that we are doing in training on to the pitch.”

I like him,he’s brought the team success and the team seem to get him,but Mexico would be a class place to live and work for a manager, especially for a Spanish speaker.I’m not too familiar with the women’s game in general and don’t know if there would be any popular/obvious choices to replace him?

The Ghirls need to win these last 2 games before the winter break. That is the immediate concern.

Prior to Alonso's arrival in 2020 (just before covid happened), Celtic had only the 2010 League Cup success to show since they started in 2007.

Since he has been here, Alonso has turned the team into genuine league title contenders, finishing R/Up twice (incl last season where Glasgow City scored in injury time v Sevco to * the title away from Celtic, in addition to winning more silverware including the 2021 League Cup and back to back Scottish Cups in 2022 & 2023.

Would hate to see Alonso go, but if he wants to move into a position he sees as forwarding his overall career, be it the men's game in Mexico it's hard to begrudge as he has done a * of a job over the last couple of seasons in developing the Ghirls. If he leaves he deserves nothing but credit, recognition and respect for the job he has done, and it's good that there are clubs out there that are also seeing that and that's why they are interested in him.

FRAN ALONSO could be set for a shock exit from Glasgow after emerging as the leading candidate to take over at a South American club, according to a report.

The Celtic women's boss was appointed by Hoops chiefs in January, 2020, but he could be on the move again just shy of four years later.

Alonso, 47, almost led the club to their first ever SWPL title last season before they were pipped by Glasgow City in the final game of the campaign.

He lifted the Scottish Cup on two occasions and the Scottish Premier League Cup once and has now caught the eyes of a Mexican club.

The manager is a target for Monterrey in the Liga MX Femenil with the team keen to appoint Alonso as Eva Espejo's successor in the dugout.

The 37-year-old left her role to take up a position in the team's boardroom and Alonso has been identified by Las Rayadas to be the ideal replacement.

That's according to OnceDiario - who claim the Celtic women's head coach is the number one candidate for the position.

It's suggested that Alonso has been frustrated with the budget restraints at Celtic and that could tempt him him to make the move to Mexico.

It would be a blow for the Hoops as Alonso is highly regarded at the club and they won't want to lose him.

The 47-year-old came to the UK with no word of English but he managed to turn his dream of coaching into a reality with Celtic.

The humble coach even worked as a housekeeper for as little as £5 an hour on the side to keep himself afloat as he tried to make it in the dugout.

But now he could take on his second management role which would see him head across the pond to take over at Monterrey.

Wow, didn't know he had to work as a sub minimum wage cleaner on the side to make ends meet while he started coaching here. :88: Covid may've had something to do with that, but surely the improvements he has made, and the silverware that he has brought did allow him to become F/T, but it's also reflective of where the club viewed the women's team as a much lower priority compared to getting far more recognition in the last couple of seasons, and a big part of the reason for that is Alonso.

But imagine how much that’d annoy Rodgers when they’re at events together, both trying to shuffle into the spotlight

I like BR again but you know * like that would do his box in :56:

When he first coached here the women's team were part time so he would have been too.
I don't blame Celtic for not investing lots into it. They should perhaps invest more. No money will ever be in the women's game in Scotland, only 3 pro teams so advertising for it will be minimal and TV companies won't want to invest in that.

Celtic Football Club today announced that Celtic Women’s team manager, Fran Alonso will be leaving the Club to take up an excellent opportunity in one of the top female leagues in the world.

Fran has been the Head Coach of Celtic FC Women for almost four years, having joined Celtic in January 2020 from Lewes FC Women. He will now join Houston Dash FC, a leading club in the American NWSL, as Head Coach.

His appointment at Celtic coincided with the team turning professional and he has overseen a real transformation at the Club and delivered unprecedented success on the pitch. Winning the League Cup in 2021 was only the second major honour for the team and the first silverware in over 10 years.

This was followed with back-to-back Scottish Cup successes in 2022 and 2023, while two second-place finishes in the Scottish Women’s Premier League also facilitated the Club’s first two experiences in the UEFA Women’s Champions’ League.

He leaves the Club in a great position, competing strongly again in the League and through to the semi-finals of the Sky Sports Cup.

Fran Alonso said: “I was not born a Celtic supporter but I will definitely die as one and I will support Celtic for the rest of my life.

“The Club, the team, the people and the Celtic community has been everything to me during the past four years and has lit up my life. It has been a wonderful adventure.

“The values, the spirit and the ethos of the Club has been everything to me and I am so proud to have held the position of Celtic manager.

“I am very sad to leave Celtic and it was a really hard decision to make. However, the new opportunity in America is one that I dreamt about since I started coaching in the women's game and I know our Celtic supporters will understand.

“During the last four years I have given absolutely everything to Celtic, on and off the field and I am delighted that we have made history in so many occasions – our very first UEFA Champions League qualification, our very first Scottish Cup, our first win in the UEFA Champions League, three trophies won, and managed to be just minutes away from winning our very first league title

'I would like to thank everyone at Celtic who has given me such brilliant support. How you all make us feel is indescribable.'

“I would like to thank all the players over this four years who have given everything for me and for the badge, and also thank you to my backroom team who have always walked the extra mile to help the team, on and off the field.

“Thanks to the directors and management at Celtic who gave me the opportunity of coming here and, of course, thank you to the best fans, who have really supported us in the hard times, have been behind us no matter what, and created atmospheres that will stay in our memories for the rest of our lives.

“I leave knowing that the Celtic women’s team is in a much better place than when I first joined, and I am sure, with this terrific squad we have built, it will go from strength to strength.

“I wish the Club and the team all the success, I will always be supporting you from abroad. C’mon the Hoops!”

Celtic Chief Executive, Michael Nicholson said: “I would like to sincerely thank Fran for the fantastic contribution he has made to the development of our women’s team.

“Under his leadership, our group of players has grown into an exciting and successful team – one which has delivered some great achievements and a team which continues to gather more and more support.

“Fran has played a pivotal role in establishing Celtic FC Women as one of the major forces in the Scottish game, a position we will be doing all we can to maintain and further improve on.

“We will also look to build on the progress that the team have made on a European level over the last couple of years.

“While we are hugely disappointed to lose Fran, everyone at the Club sincerely wishes him every success in his new challenge.

“The work on identifying his successor has already begun and we will make an announcement on the position as soon as possible.”
