He was one of the stars at my Celtic in FM08. Signed him for about 250k back then, banged them in for fun.

How are you's setting up your centre backs ? eg , one on cover duty , 1 on stopper duty etc....
I'v been having a little trouble keeping clean sheets and need to find the right combination.

I dont have anyone fast enough or good enough anticipation for cover so they are both set to defend. Miranda is the best I got and he's not good enough

Who are you using to cover? Loovens, McManus & Caldwell are not suitable imo

Also, you are hardly trying to play the offside trap or push a high line?

Atm both Caldwell amd Loovens are just set to defend , playing a normal defensive line. Just been conceding silly goals frequently.
Funnily enough i'm actually looking to sign Miranda.

Try a deeper defensive line, they are slow!

I was desperate + Shakhtar caused a bidding war, ended up paying €12M for him :31:

He's settling nicely into my team, some of players arent happy with my teamtalks but they arent performing good so * em! He's good and I reckon he'll get better once he gets the language, adapts etc. Try not to spend €12M for him though! :56:

Yeah I'm shipping some * goals as well. Problem compounded by the fact I could only bring in a 30 year old average nobody to act as cover, so really I have no competition. (I'm Espanyol)

I've set both my defenders to "limited defender" so I'm hoping they are just a pair of dim-witted hoofers. Sadly against Real Madrid, I went 1-0 up and the goals I lost were simple headers, the one thing I didn't expect to lose (my boys are decent at headers etc). Ended 2-1 Pah.

I think in an ideal world I would have a mix. For example a Vidic and Ferdinand, one to hack, hoof and attack the ball and one to have a bit of composure with the ball at feet...

Whats their fitness like, concentration? Maybe they switched off which is likely in a really tough match.

You have both set to limited, surely one is decent enough to play normally or like Caldwell :86:

I dunno if anyone else has noticed but when you adjust the role and duty, you see the key attributes highlighted which helps me decide. I check the description of the role and duty and see whats lacking and if I feel that certain key attributes are really weak e.g. Acc & Antcipation for a any sort of covering defender (needs to be 15+ imo) if not, i choose other roles where the key attributes are strong but not requiring acc and anticipation

Aye ideal world is Vidic/Ferdinand or Terry/Carvalho (IRL those partnerships are struggling!)

    Scouting him now...

BTW Maloney has been great an inside forward for me this season, 11 goals and 17 assists in 32 games.

I'm in my second season with West Brom now. Got promoted last season, was really touch and go for most of the season. I was close to being sacked on more than one occasion. :52: But just as I was getting news messages about how the press were saying that a defeat in the next game would mean I'd get the sack I went on these longer unbeaten streaks. In the end I finished third, so I had to go through playoffs. Beat Reading on penalties in the semis and then Preston in the final thanks to a late goal by Ishmael Miller. Simon * was great, top scorer in the league, he's my top scorer now too, but with a low total, probably a bit out of depth in the EPL.

Did a lot of wheeling and dealing for my second season. Sold a couple of players like Luke Moore, who was my second best scorer, Zuiverloon, Cech, Miller etc.

Signed Deco and Burdisso on a free, Kerzhakov, Dembele. Got Owen, Drenthe and Poulsen on a loan. 13th atm thanks to a change of tactics halfway through after which I started winning more games.

After I struggled in the championship I changed from 4-4-2 to 3-1-4-2, but now I switched to an attacking 4-2-3-1, but with back 4 all being very defensive minded more or less.

    I'll post some screenies later.

I think FM10 is a great game, much more polished at this stage than FM09 was. What are your opinions?

I can't speak about their individual stats at the moment because I'm at work, but my CB combo is Pareja and Forlin. Both seem to be the kind of defenders with lots of aaaaaverage stats as opposed to high key stats.

I might try playing one in a more Caldwell role but in La Ligua I may have the misguided notion that two no nonsense brawlers would be better than someone trying to control things. I've got a DM coming back to do that though hopefully. It's just all these clearances could be gifting possession back to the opposition to easily, gah!

I'm playing a 4-4-2 with Nakamura and my new young Croat advanced on the flanks to the deep lying forward position, cuting in from the wing and creating/having a go. 2 battlers in the middle, one (Hurtado) given a bit more flexibility being played as a midfielder and the other (Svensson) as a ball-winner, hopefully recycling the balls out wide. Playing the classic big-man little-man combo up front as well (Targetman/Poacher)...

Sitting 10th in the League, even beat Valencia who were first 3-0 at home. Struggled to a 2-1 at the Nou Camp and 2-1 against Real at home so currently looking like I can beat the decent/crap teams and showing promise (but not beating) the great sides.
