That's a bit unfair, he a gay guy so he will feel it differently the same way as he mentioned a jewish guy will feel an attack on a synagogue differently.

When your community is being targeted you want people to know about it, talk about it and do something about it.

I'm sure he cares as much for the victims as you and me. I don't know how he could be concerned about them?

I'm not having a pop at the guy, I dont even know who he is in all honesty - was just putting it out there :50:

I think the more pressing issue here is the means in which the guy was able to carry out his attack - since free speech is championed in America. As far as I'm aware, it's not against the law to hate gays over there.

What's the problem with him walking out? Good on him. It was a premeditated attack on the lgbt community. I don't know why they aren't highlighting it more.
Another guy was arrested somewhere else armed to the teeth at a pride event too.

Very out of character for Owen Jones. Normally a very cool customer. I've read 'Chavs' and 'The Establishment' and both are great reads.

It's not really though is it? It's the umpteenth mass shooting in the US in the last few years.

On reflection, it was sort of overdue having this kind of attack on the gay community given how they are viewed by extremists.

What they are succeeding in doing though is to actually make every single person that little bit more afraid of situations that previously would have never have given rise to any fear. Whether you are at a concert, or queueing to go up the Eiffel Tower or in a nightclub or cafe......surely now at some fleeting point, these * cross our minds now? They do for me anyway.

Which is a shame, because everyone who is in or around these types of places who look even remotely Middle-Eastern will be judged on appearance alone.

But aye, you definitely don't feel safe anymore.

Yes, it is the innocent people from those areas who are paying the price. The hearts of Indian and Pakistani people all over the country must sink a little every time something like this happens.....as they know the stares and glances and hostility will go up a notch.

There are mass shootings every day in America, why would this one make it a more pressing issue to discus gun law?

Are you saying because it's not against the law to hate gay people this guy was within his rights, let's talk about the gun he used?

I never once said it was. But the fact that you've just mentioned "there are mass shootings every day in America" should be enough evidence to discuss gun law, wouldn't ya say?

Well within his rights to do do what.....hate gays? Of course he was. It's not against the law not to like a certain group of folk, is it? And it's not against the law (in America) to practice free speech, is it?

I don't think it is a can of worms they are afraid to open I just think they just don't care as it doesn't suit there agenda. Which I think is the point he was making.

It might not be against the law but that doesn't mean it's not against human principles and something that has to be challenged. In fact I would say all forms of hate are more important than gun laws.

I agree with you, mass shootings every day means gun law should be discussed every day until they get Swiss style control. Giving this shooting a one off debate just makes it easy for the NRA. They know how to handle it but if it was on Americans every day minds then maybe something would be done.

Serious gun control will never happen in the USA in this century.

For what it's worth, I agree with your opening part of the post there, well most of it. I didn't say he was RIGHT to hate gays, but he HAD THE RIGHT not to like gays, as should be his human right to hold an opinion. What he did not have the right to do though, was practice his hatred by choosing to manifest this hatred into actual physical crime.

Sorry if that came across wrong, I know you didn't say it was right.
