Tell me a striker that isn't? Keane went for glory today, took a shot from a tight angle when it would have been better to pass it to Ras - is he too interested in his own glory as well?

Sammy has a lot of areas to his game that needs improved but I don't think team play is one of them, yes he makes the wrong decisions but I don't think it's born out of greed, I like his attitude, the way he keeps looking for the ball and giving 100% despite the abuse he receives regularly, to me that takes a * of a lot of character.

That is a very good way of putting it. There is no doubt in my mind that a strong softspot exists and it does colour some people judgements of players but its human nature and nothing sinister.

Very similar to Aidan in that regard. Its why both are not top class and slightly flatter to decieve. Having said that we would never have got Sammy if he had a sharp football mind and lethal finishing on top of his skill, pace and height.

I've no problem with supporting players of your home country, but when people prop up O'Dea (look back through the numerous threads saying he was going to sort this defense out when he returned) and give Sammy constant stick it leaves me scratching my head. I'm an American of Scottish and Irish descent. I love when player from either country do well and I am by no means calling anyone racist. I'm just stating that some of the so-called "tims" on this forum sometimes wear clover-shaped, green tinted glasses. Same goes for the Catholic-Protestant arguments. Let's just support Celtic and hope that the players we have who have some quality turn good. Many of these players are very young (most footballers don't hit prime form til around 27-29). If Celtic fans would have a little patience we will be a force to be reckoned with in a couple seasons.

Samaras should not be playing. Is it just Mowbray that doesn't realise he isn't playing as a striker? At times hes a holding midfielder or a left winger! Hardly ever in the box!

He plays LW/LM for his country,Greece. That is possibly his natural position.

Samaras is the most infuriating player at Celtic. He can play amazing then absolutely worthless in a space of 5 minutes. How many times could he have passed forward to the striker? How many times were moves being broken down by his inability to lift his head.

If he sorted himself out we could have a player of our hands but until then I would not let him in the team. Could see Rass and Keane starting more often than not for the remainder of the season

no but it proves a lack of being a goals machine cannot be held against him.

Jeeze! I put this up earlier & there was only about 20 posts now its up to the 100's..

I have read threw most of the posts & some are harsh others can see what Sammy brings to the team. The thing is Mogga has said on many of occasions he wants good technical footballers, Sammy falls into that category, he doesn't have a natural postion, he runs for 90mins & is probably one of the hardest men to mark in Celtic's side because of his movement.

The people that say that he needs a hair cut or has his head in his hands or what ever else they say, I do agree that, thats a stupid excuse to hold against someone. Because if you had a twitch or a big beard or what ever & someone hated you for it, wouldn't you think that was a stupid reason not to like you? I know theres fans who aren't as childish as that, & not everyone can take to liking certain players, thats fine its a matter of opinion, but like it or not guys, Sammy is classed & I could get links & quotes from other players of teams we have played this year stating that Samaras is 1 of, if not thee biggest threat in Celtic's side, so thats coming from professionals.. I know the reason why people don't like him, I can see from that point of view, he isn't a striker that will be in the 6 yard box when you need him, he comes to deep at times, I get all that, but thats the reason why I have took a liking to him, because he isn't an out & out striker, you watch him, & he comes deep to get the ball & keeps us moving, he moves around the football field, dragging players this way & that, ok maybe sometimes he tries to squeeze a pass threw to quickly, but when it comes off & when he is high on confidence, there is no player in the SPL (Besides Keane now), that is better than him..

Celtic got him for £1.2Mill from City, a steal if you ask me, from day one, he has played for the badge, he gives a 100%, he has had criticism from the press, he has had it from other teams (Rangers last year) & he even gets it from his own fans, (Which is harsh), I know when players aren't playing well you let them know about it, I get all that, but even for some he touches the ball & fans are on his back. Top scorer for Celtic this year regardless of what anyone says, so to say he doesn't finish off his chances, what does that say about the rest of the team? He is a team player, he isn't an out & out striker, but he is useful, & I wouldn't be surprised if Mogga wants to extend his contract, & if he does I think the fans should get behind Sammy & help him, because when the fans are on his side (Like they were the other month), Sammy is one * of a player, fans go against him (Now), & he starts trying to hard to impress & makes mistakes, confidence drops & fans turn against him, when did we start getting so bitter? Sometimes the criticism on here is worse than is written in the press.

As I said Im not trying to force anyone into liking the big man, but at least appreciate what he brings for the team & respect the talents he has & what he can do for Celtic in the long run, if he wasn't good enough, the Manager wouldn't pick him. As I said I am abit bias, but cracking player :50:

He cannot keep a consistently high level of performance for a meaningful run of games. Yes he can be brilliant at times but more often than not he is very, very poor. His decision making is poor, his passing poor, he's a very lethargic player and easily closed down, he's physically bullied regularly and struggles to hold up a ball. Also, the way he drifts all over the pitch wrecks any organisation and shape we might have.

I'd say, average at best. Not good enough to hold down a starting place.

The two main problems with Samaras (and unfortunately they're big problems) is that he's fairly inconsistent and not clinical enough. However, I think he's been playing quite well this season.

i don't think anybody was holding that against him. we're holding his decision-making, location on the field and lack of execution in the penalty area.

Every time he gets the ball he seems to slow down the pace of the game and try to beat three players. He is an enigma, when in the mood he can look excellent, how often does this really happen? What would have happened yesterday if we were realying on him for a couple of goals.

He was quick last season to came out and tell Rangers they weren't good enough to beat us for the league but you have to ask what has he really brought to Celtic?

Besides a decent goal record and wonderful work-rate? I guess nothing. If you want Wayne Rooney then you have to pay Wayne Rooney money. We paid 1.2M for the player, and at that he's been a steal.
