It’s honestly hilarious how some people think football is back to normal now as if there is no greed in it.

Or that somehow UEFA, Sky etc & even the government are supposedly the 'good guys' in all of this, when it was in their own self interest to keep things the way they are, and had a vested interest in ensuring this attempted super league failed, as they all would have lost out massively had it gone through. Every bit as complicit in creating the conditions for this to have happened. :87:

It's still all about money unfortunately and an equitable solution means greed would need to take a back seat - how likely is that to happen with all the money involved?

It’s kind of sad in all honesty.

We were basically 95% of the way to a European super league anyway. There’s a ladder to get to the top currently, but the first 20 steps are missing. All the European super league would’ve done is pull that ladder up and made what’s already a closed shop more official. No real difference to me.

Anyone suggesting football is the game of the people hasn’t been watching for decades. The governing bodies sole focus should be on making the experience better for the fans through promoting competition and meritocracy - which is what sport is really meant to be all about. Their sole focus is instead on ‘maximising value’ which just means squeezing fans that bit harder in any way possible.

So, the Champions of Luxembourg should be straight into the CL proper whereas whoever finishes 2nd in La Liga (so Real or Barca) should go into the Europa? Gie us peace.

This Super League is so poorly executed that it let's me think it was a rigged arrangement between UEFA and the top clubs to ensure that the ridiculous new Champions League format can be introduced silently. If the clubs wanted to use it as a pressure tactics they published it on the wrong day because the negotioations about the new format were already done and it was quite clear the UEFA board would wave through the new format.

If UEFA would really be interested in the fans opinions they would use this to reform the CL in a way that gives more money to poorer teams to make them more competitive as the big clubs can't threaten to form their own league for some time now.

The champions league needs restructured it needs to be fairer for the smaller clubs. Ceferin even paid us lip service this week about how the Champions League needs Celtic yet they makes us play 3/4 qualifiers every year. UEFA is there to represent 55 associations it's not just there to represent England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France. I take you're point on board about it being harder to finish 2nd in some countries than win our league but there still has to be a fairer way to go about qualification

That's exactly the way it should work.

It isn’t as ridiculous as it sounds.

The champions of the smaller leagues would get some much needed money from competing in the CL and would produce better sides, eventually being able to compete with sides from the big leagues who had failed to qualify.

The champions of Luxembourg and Real or Barca is an extreme example - but what about the likes of us, Ajax, Feynoord, PSV, Porto, Sporting, Anderlecht etc. It would create a much more level playing field.

The system as it is just now simply exists to keep the richest clubs from the biggest leagues involved in the latter stages, as often as possible. Spreading out the CL places would result in a few years of the completion appearing substandard, but the poorer teams would eventually become better as a direct result of that access. The end result would be a much more competitive European football landscape, which is surely why most fans want?

That’s exactly how it should be if it’s for champions.... it’s just a European league (super league even) if not...

We all know the changes - just like the ones now - were done to ensure certain teams were always in the competition and to boost fixtures and therefore tv money with those glamour matches that are so routine now that there is no glamour and interest falling rapidly.

There can be only one champion of a national league and to pretend that s other club in another league coming 2nd/3rd/4th is more deserving isn’t just insulting but wrong. They may be a better side but are still not champions.

The competition competes to win the European Cup. It should be a Knock out competition (as it was) with Europa league retaining the group setup - EC losers dropping in if necessary.

The champions of Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, etc would no doubt come up against a seeded team and be knocked out early on but at least they get their chance and as we know... over 2 legs anything can happen. 5 rounds (9 or 10 games ) and any national club champion team could be holding up that trophy.

Celtic would not have won in 67 had a league structure been in place then. I doubt the likes of Ajax or Forest would have been as successful either.

If U€FA really want to show that sporting integrity and the spirit of the game is forefront rather than money then they would revert to the original format without thinking twice.

The current CL set-up is just the Super League masquerading as something ‘fair’.

    It’s not!

It’s still a closed shop for the rich big boys... and the rest of us have to beg for the scraps!

Us moving to a European league would definitely allow us to reach our potential which is bigger than most British and European clubs.

What about enlarging the football pyramid for league winners to ascend to a euro division a b c and promotion from euro c to b To a for league winners ?

I really hope ALL 12 clubs are hammered. Not just by UEFA comp ban for a year bit also their coefficients changed to 0.
Once they get back to European football they should NOT be allowed direct access to group stages for 5 seasons.
The £6bn that they were to receive over 5 seasons hould be paid out in 1 season to be split between all other qualified clubs NOT from those nations.
