We would have to honour it yeah.

What I mean is Lawwell wouldn't tie us into a 5 year deal if he had even an inkling we'd be part of a European league within that period of time and knowing full well he could broker better terms for Celtic.

Great idea from our point of view, but i'll believe it when I see it. Are they suggesting scrapping domesic football in its current form??? I'm sure the same English Premiership clubs and Championship clubs that oppose the idea of us joining the EPL would be dead against it.

For me, this would be a dream come true. Even if we started in the bottom tier of the 60, it wouldn't be long until we made it into the top 20. Imagine the potential players on show and the atmosphere on a typical Saturday compared to what we get now. World stars wearing the hoops, stadium probably expanded to in around 80,000, not an empty seat to be seen. As i said, a total dream. Just don't know how likely it ever is to happen though.

I'm all for it. Now if someone could come in and do a Man City with Real Murcia, Hércules and Elche...

This won't happen anytime soon. The economy is in a bad shape, people won't be able to afford to travel to away games all the time.

I think this would be more a league for fans who go to home games. The demand for season tickets would go up, as would tv figures for away games.

Plus the current economic climate is speculated (although who can believe anythnig anymore) to last no longer than a couple of years. This Euro league proposition is for I believe 4-5 years+

The MLS won't stop because of the current economic crisis. Europe and North America are similar land masses and with the apparent ease you should technically be able to move within the EU it should be exactly the same.

I think a European League will kill football as we know it.

There will be no travelling support to speak of. It will all be home fans, and that would lead the atmosphere to be worse than it is currently in CP. Sure there will be a few big games but most wont exactly get your blood pumping.

I know the SPL isn't exactly top notch entertainment. At the moment though I would rather we stayed here and played in the Champ League every season!

I dont believe that teh SPL could run parallel to the Euro League either!

I saw Bray on Friday night against the Drogs and they are crap, tipped to go down with the likes of the drogs and Dundalk.
Where are boh's, Shamrock, St Pats or even Cork and Derry on the list .
    It don't make sence

Would be good for the players and cash but think it would take the magic away from the CL and the atmosphere that surrounds it :38:

Celtic fans wouldn't travel abroad to watch their team? It's a couple of hours on a flight to get to mainland Europe, it's nothing. The prices of flights would come down as well in line with the increased demand, it would be exactly the same as any American taking an internal flight which is almost like flagging a taxi over there. In essence we SHOULD be the exact same considering the law is you should only require a driving licence to fly within the EU.

Celtic fans would still travel to matches away in europe. We would possibly have the best travelling support in the whole league.

The difference is there seems to be interest from even bigger clubs in some of the top footballing countries.

I think the difference is this is now led by people that will do anything to try and break the monopoly the EPL sides have over European competition.

When you have the backing of the federation overseeing the running of football in Europe you're moving forward.

Still think it'll be a medium term thing rather than within a couple of years right enough, maybe the peak in economic terms that will follow the current trough might be the catalyst for it.

I would love this to happen asap. Then I could spend my time just driving from game to game on mainland Europe.
But I won't hold my breath.
