Read an interview with him earlier on and he said he was reading a book about the history of Celtic. Little things like that prove how much he's bought into the club.

World Class CBs? Need to chill out a bit mate.

Two top players who I'm delighted we have currently along with Kolo who I hope starts to get more games again soon.

On Erik he is very solid consistently which is all you can ask for at CB, like Lustig he's a 7.5/10 every week.

Him and Jozo have been frightening recently.

The biggest thing about them is the calmness they give the team. For two young centre halves they really do exude confidence

    Rodgers on Sviatchenko

He’s a boy that I’ve got huge admiration for. After every game he studies his own game and cuts how own parts – edits his own individual clips – and then comes to us.

We then sit and look together. That’s learning. We sit and talk through his game – what he’s done well and what he can improve on so he can take it into the next game.

So the improvement he’s making is because of him. He’s done that since he was in Denmark. It was part of what they did there, he’s felt the benefits of it, and he’s continued with it.

Self analysis is very important. Others will do it, look at things with the coaching staff. But Erik does his own, and that’s what you want as a coach. You want players who think about the game.

ES: "We showed good progression from the first game to last in the #UCL. For some of us, it was our first time and we dealt with it well.

ES: "I’ve improved my composure. If you believe in yourself and want to have the ball, you’ll be competitive at this level."

ES: "It’s [the #UCL] a better competition with Celtic in it. We showed we belong in the tournament and the support also shows that."

ES on @SimunovicJozo partnership: "I enjoy it. It’s still in progress. We are both fairly young and still have a lot of development in us."

ES on #SPFL: "We can be dominant but we need to be at our best. Hopefully it can be a special season but it’s all about the next game."

ES on @MotherwellFC game: "It was tough to watch. First game we were really challenged and we showed we are capable of coping with that."

CELTIC have harnessed the power of positivity under Brendan Rodgers to go on an 17-game unbeaten streak in Scotland, according to Erik Sviatchenko.

The Danish defender was back at Lennoxtown today with his Hoops team-mates following their 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League as the Bhoys prepare to get back to domestic action with Friday’s game against Partick Thistle at Firhill.

And after helping his side remain unbeaten in two games against City, while gradually progressing as a unit throughout the course of this season’s European journey, the centre-half said it has been the team’s positive mental attitude that has helped them record such impressive results so far this season in domestic games and at times on the continent.

“It comes from when you are difficult to score against then you have this belief in some way,” he said. “The second thing is if you’re difficult to beat then you just go out there and you are consciously thinking, no matter what, we will be able to create chances.

“Every player up front has shown capability of scoring goals and it’s not a feeling of being invincible, it’s more a feeling of just believing so much in the power and concept of how we’re playing that it just feels natural that we’re going to win the games, but that’s with a respect to the opponents.”

That belief was put to the test last weekend when, without Sviatchenko in defence, Celtic shipped two first-half goals to Motherwell in the Premiership, their first domestic goals conceded since Kilmarnock were trounced 6-1 at Paradise at the end of September.

The Motherwell game was hard for Sviatchenko to watch from home but, ahead of Friday’s Glasgow derby with the Jags, the defender said the eventual 4-3 win for the Celts showed their belief runs deep and he added that the champions will be keen to get back on another run of clean sheets.

“It was a bit tough,” he added. “I was up and down with my tea but it was great that we could bounce back.

“We’ve shown in a lot of games throughout the season so far that some games we’ve won with a big score, while some have been really tight, but this was the first game where we have been really challenged, being down by two goals then coming back, so we showed we are capable of coming back with different mental styles.

“The positivity just shines through the team and football has to be positive. It has to be a joy playing and that’s what the team is about at the moment.”
