I think unless he is injured he is surely the least risky option against Bayern.

Lustig as CB would involve Ralston in the wings and for the more I like the kid I don't think it's the best for his development to be thrown in the fire against one of the best teams in the world again. Miller starting, even worse. Erik was a regular starter for a team that played in the Europa League stages and a finish product. This would be a great chance for him.

I don't know why, maybe boyata's rise in form, but I believe Erik can come back and and claim a stake in this squad, I feel like if we can get him playing like we know he can a back three of Jozo Erik and Boyata would be beastly in the league, still not quite there in Europe but having three natural cb's in the back would be immense.

I hope he can find his form again, though it’s maybe best gradually putting him back in the side as the last time he was introduced he was far from great.

What was his injury? At the time I never thought it was this bad to keep him out for so long.

No, he has knee ligament damage, which takes a while to come back from.

Personally think Rodgers doesn’t like his stature or his ability.

Think he’ll be shipped out in one of the next 2 windows.

ERIK SVIATCHENKO is set for a return to the Celtic first team after the international break.

The Danish stopper has been sidelined with a knee ligament injury picked up in the Champions League qualifier with Rosenberg at the start of August.

He left the field injured on that day has not featured since August

With fellow stopper Dedryck Boyata previously out and Jozo Simunovic crocked again, boss Brendan Rodgers has been unable to get a settled back four.

But Sviatchenko – whose latest spell out came after a brief spell on the sidelines – is now back training.

Assistant gaffer Chris Davies is hopeful he can return soon.

Davies said: “Erik has been out for a while. He had his first injury, was back a short time then was out again.

“He needs to build up his fitness and sharpness having been out a long time. But he’s now back with the group every day.

“So it’ll possibly be after the break for Erik. The good thing is the international break gives him chance to build up his fitness and get some sessions in.

“He needs a strong week. Jozo is doing light rehab so he will be another few weeks. That bodes well and hopefully we can keep them fit.”

Rodgers thought he’d landed an extra centre-half in the summer until South African stopper Rivaldo Coetzee failed a medical at the end of August.

That’s seen the likes of Nir Bitton and Mikael Lustig used as stand-in centre-halves.

Rodgers hopes to add another stopper in January and Davies added: “Unfortunately the move in the summer didn’t transpire.

“In isolation it was a blow it didn’t end up happening. The disappointment has been more the bad luck of injuries since then.

“We’ve got good central defenders at the club. Three who have played a lot.

“But they’ve had patterns of injury which hasn’t allowed us to sustain them as a partnership.

“Nir has stepped back into the role and performed really well. We’ve got Kristoffer Ajer, who’s a young developing player.

“There are numbers there, it’s just been sustaining their availability.”
