Wasn't the agent stuff confirmed to be bullshit though? The rumours were that he was "set for discussions" because he was wanted, but then the next day they said it was just a routine meeting with the club.

    * hate the majority of agents.

They'd be doing well to take a leaf out of Dembele's agents book.

Like I said mate, I'm probably reading too much in to it. When I first read it, I sort of got the impression that if he's got all these different things going, then maybe he's not completely focused on his football. In saying that, I could be doing him a disservice there as he does seem like a fairly professional guy.

In regards to the agent stuff I never heard the follow up stuff about him dismissing it. Wasn't there quotes from his agent talking about the apparent interest from other clubs?

In hindsight, my last post isn't looking like a good one :giggle1:

Aye he's had vested interests in modelling and fashion and stuff long before he came to us. I wouldn't see that as an issue in the slightest..

It was more to do with him saying that he's always rushing off to be somewhere else and wondering if that implied he was taking too much on. I don't have a problem with players having other interests on the side (unless it somehow affected their performances for us, which I'm not saying is the case here).

Like I said though, I probably read too much into it and was filling in blanks that weren't there.

Armstrong and erik are best pals now. It's a joke.
I enjoy how erik isn't just a one dimensional player outside the game. He has other active interests outside the game. Get to know more about him through that.

IF things had turned out differently at the start of this year, Erik Sviatchenko could have been among those players who seemingly pushed for the shock recent sacking of Claudio Ranieri. The now former Leicester City manager had expressed an interest in recruiting the Celtic centre half during the January transfer window – the player, refreshingly, confirmed as much – in a bid to plug a backline leaking goals profusely in what must be considered one of the worst title defences in living memory.

Sviatchenko admits it remains an aspiration to one day play in England but that a move to the reigning champions held little appeal at this point. At 25 years old he believes he still has a lot to learn at Celtic just 14 months after moving to Scotland from Midtjylland in his homeland. The prospect of a return to the Champions League next season – something Leicester won’t be doing unless they somehow go on to win this year’s competition – is one of the key reasons for Sviatchenko expressing a willingness to put down roots in Glasgow.

“I’m always aware when my agent is having some talks but there has to be more than just talks,” he said. “Was it from Leicester? Yes. There was concrete interest but not a concrete offer. I said that I was happy where I am and at that time I was playing. It was too early for me at that stage.

“There was never an issue about me wanting to leave. I’m 25 and I want to play regularly and here is the perfect place to flourish and find your A game.

“It is a dream for every player, including myself, to play at the very top level and I would say the English Premier League is one of the highest levels you can play at. But the experience so far with the Champions League and how we play, I think I am at the right stage at the moment. It is future talk.

“I would be honest and transparent and say that my dream is to play in the Premier League but I am not saying that I want to do it now because I have more than enough to do yet. I feel that I have come a long way but I am not done at all, yet. The Champions League nights have been the biggest nights of my career so far and I would like to experience more of them.”

Sviatchenko’s most pressing concern, then, since the turn of the year has been keeping his place in the team. The re-emergence of Dedryck Boyata has created a situation where three centre halves – Jozu Simunovic is the other – are battling it out for two spots, with Sviatchenko having to accept a seat on the bench for some recent matches. He returned to the starting line-up against Hamilton Academical last weekend and hopes to retain that place for this evening’s visit to Inverness Caledonian Thistle but is philosophical about his time out of the side.

“I wasn’t worried because I believe in my qualities,” added the 25 year-old. “The manager hadn’t played me so regularly before just for fun. I know that I’m an important player. There are some things the manager wants me to be even better at, like bringing the ball forward and that’s something I’m working on.

“It would be too easy to say: ‘That’s football – my time is up here.’ This is the first time in my career I have been on the bench like that but I just want to work hard and, after having been out, I have a better perspective on things.

“Competition is a natural thing when you are a professional and sometimes it’s good to come out of the team and think about how you play football and why you play football. Hopefully, though, I’ll be in the team from now on because it’s best for my development to play regularly.”

Inverness, the only ground where Celtic have dropped league points this season, represents another stop in their quest to go through the domestic season undefeated. Sviatchenko insists it isn’t a talking point in the dressing room but conceded it would a terrific achievement if they could do so, having already overhauled the Lisbon Lions’ best ever start to a season.

“We have already made history once so why not make it again? But it is too early to say that just now. There are still some tough games and every team we face at the moment will do as much as they can to stop our unbeaten run. It means as much to them to stop us as it does to us to keep it going.

“You want to keep winning because it is a nice feeling. I know the feeling when you go into a dressing room and you have lost points or you lost a game and that is not funny. I think it is just about how you feel and every player in this squad wants to win, so I don’t think there will any complacency.

“Going unbeaten is a big incentive but it is not something that is an ongoing thing or talked about in the dressing room. It is not something that we said was a target. The closer we get to something it can become a target. Personally speaking I could say that it is something that we would remember and be remembered for so it is a big thing.”

Despite Boyata's good form I still miss Erik not being in the side.

Still our best CB for me.

    interview about fashion with him

A WELL SUITED FAMILY: ERIK SVIATCHENKO

Sergei Sviatchenko and his two sons, Philip and Erik, are based in Denmark and together curate and run the men’s fashion blog, CLOSE UP AND PRIVATE, dedicated to classic menswear and fashion photography. Sergei, a world renowned artist, originates from Ukraine, but moved to Denmark in 1990 where he has continued to produce highly visual collages. Their style epitomizes well-dressed, tailored men of the 60s and provokes the idea of what it means to be a tailored man of the modern day. We had the chance to sit down with the father and sons trio, here's what Erik had to say.

What is the story about the blazer you are wearing today?

It is actually quite a short story as I haven’t had it for that long. It is the very first prototype of a blazer that my dad, brother, and I have designed. Hopefully we will be able to sell it at some point. It’s made by one of the local tailors here in town. It was interesting for us to be able to make what we think is the perfect blazer.

What are you suggestions for wearing a tailored blazer?

I think the most import thing for me is that it feels natural. For me, it has just always been the way we’ve dressed. Ever since I was a kid, I have been wearing formal clothes with ties and so on, so it feels very natural to be in a blazer and tie. But it’s important to know that you can take baby steps into a more tailored style. We just hope our readers can take elements from the blog and interpret them for themselves.

How would you describe your style?

I like to think of style as an identity that you wear. We’ve been wearing classic clothes since we were kids. Our dad would pair our shorts with high socks pulled all the way up; he just thought it gave an elegant touch. So this style of dressing has been something that I’ve lived my whole life in, so for me it’s a part of my very core and even second nature to dress the way I do. I can’t pinpoint exactly what my style is, but I think it’s an organic process that you develop over time. I like to think my specific taste or preferences for certain things are something that is continually evolving.

Where do you gain your inspiration from?

My dad is really good at passing on what influences him and he has developed his style over many years, so I’m just lucky to have access to his wealth of style knowledge. I’m also inspired a lot by movies. Some years back I was watching The Talented Mister Ripley – it was thrilling to watch and ever since it has been very inspiring to me. And it also portrays a very classic way of men and women in clothes, which I think is interesting and aesthetically inspiring.

Do you think there will ever be a time when tailoring isn’t a part of the man’s wardrobe?

No, I think it will always be there. It will change form and shape and new interpretations of the classics will happen over time, but never disappear.

You have roots in Ukraine – Do you see that come through in your style or is your approach more international?

I think it is hard to draw parallels like that, but my dad was always orientated towards the west when they lived in Ukraine. I remember he once told how he got hold of an American pair of jeans in exchange for an LP for a week to some guy. Ever since then he was very interested in American culture and style. But we have been growing up in a Scandinavia and I think that we also incorporate some Scandinavian elements. I really like the minimalistic and functional approach to the clothes and design that we have up here.

    Where's that from mate?

I'm getting fed up of him and his agent going on about interest from elsewhere. Maybe he has felt the need to clarify stuff again for some reason but I'd rather not keep hearing this *

Bi harsh, always seems a down to earth guy. Ambitious. Yes. Narcissist? Maybe a little strong. We are blessed with 3 good CHs at the moment and we are rotating them. Eric is my preference out the three. So I might be a bit bias

agree 100% with that, Simunović is a really classy defender and don't really see a flaw in his game unlike the other 2.
