    He was back to his best late on. Sniffed out danger and made a couple of tackles that he had no right to win.

    ERIK SVIATCHENKO admits he was honoured to be linked with a deadline day move to England.

    But he’s handed Celtic a huge boost by pledging his future to the Hoops because he loves working with boss Brendan Rodgers.

    The giant Danish defender was linked with a last gasp move to the Premier League with champions Leicester City, Southampton and Swansea City all credited with an interest.

    But even if those clubs had followed it up with a firm offer, Sviatchenko would have disappointed them.

    And, just over a year since he joined from FC Midtjylland, the stopper has underlined his pleasure at playing for Celtic.

    He explained: “It’s part of being a footballer that when you are doing well, it attracts interest.

    “Sometimes it’s more than interest – but it takes two to tango.

    “I was honoured that I was mentioned with this major league – it confirms to me I am playing for a good team who are doing well.

    “But I’m happy where I am, so I’m in no hurry. I’ve only been here a year and feel that I’m developing really well here.

    “I would obviously like to test myself at the highest level one day and see how good I can be, but that’s in the future.

    “Celtic have been good for me and my reputation. I have got to play in plenty of matches at a high level.

    “It’s a year since I arrived and I have been incredibly busy.

    “I’m really, really proud of my team here. We’ve won the league and have played in the Champions League.

    “Not all Danish players have managed that when they have gone abroad.

    “A lot of my pleasure at playing for Celtic comes from our manager. He is developing an incredibly exciting and aggressive style of play.

    “We have been able to hold onto our best players and it’s just great to be a part of.

    “The manager has been amazing. He takes control of everything from how we do things in life to how we play.

    “He communicates very well and personally he suits me perfectly. He is still a young coach, but we can also tell him that he is a very experienced coach.

    “He’s been at Liverpool, Chelsea and Watford. He loves to shape and develop young players.

    “Look at young Kieran Tierney as an example. He has made enormous strides during the summer and is the next great hope at left back.

    “I have played in over 50 matches with Celtic and it has been great. I hope to continue my progress here.”

    Won't go anywhere until his wee lad is old enough etc. They won't want to shift him anytime soon.

    He also has to continue performing at a level good enough to win him a move. As long as we get 2 or 3 years out of him with a few memories I'm happy.

    I just expected him to really fall in love with the place and not be interested in a Stoke or Leicester type. He is quite right to want to test himself though.
