Emmanuel Adebayor is set to be banned for at least three matches for his wild rampage against Arsenal at Easlands.
The Manchester City striker has been charged with violent conduct for scraping his studs down the face of Robin van Persie in the 4-2 victory over the Gunners on Saturday. He is expected to be banned for three matches if found guilty.
Adebayor, who transferred from Arsenal in a £25million move to City this summer, also faces a separate charge of improper conduct for racing down the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans.
He has until 6pm on Wednesday to appeal against both charges.
An FA statement read: 'The Football Association today issued two charges against Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor following Saturday’s Premier League fixture between Manchester City and Arsenal.
'Under the fast-track disciplinary process, Adebayor has been charged with violent conduct following an incident with Robin van Persie, which resulted in the Arsenal player receiving facial injuries.
'Referee Mark Clattenburg has advised The FA that he did not see this incident, but has confirmed that had he done so, he would have sent Adebayor off for violent conduct. The player has until 6pm on Wednesday evening to respond to the charge.
'Adebayor has also been charged with improper conduct following his actions when turning and running the full length
'The Greater Manchester Police have written to The FA with their views on this incident. A separate date will now be arranged for a commission to consider Adebayor’s goal celebration.
'We have also asked the GMP and the clubs to identify those supporters involved in any violent and aggravating behaviour. The FA would like to see anyone found guilty of such behaviour face action through the legal system and banning orders from football.
'The FA would like to thank the Manchester City FC stewards for the way they managed a very difficult situation and to pass on sincere best wishes to the steward who was injured during the game.
'We will continue to work with the LMA and PFA in particular to help remind players of their responsibilities, especially in highly charged situations.'
Unless Adebayor can successfully argue his case, he is almost certain not to be available for City at least until their trip to Wigan on October 18.

Fair enough about the Van Persie stamp but getting charged over the celebration is ridiculuous.
Yes hes a * and asrsenal fans should be snapping but charging him over is a joke. -

Agreed, the stamp was bad but the celebration was brilliant considering how Arsenal supporters treat their own players when they have a bad day at the office.

Don't particularly like Arsenal fans but that was pretty bad. If a former Celt had done it I'd be tempted to lowp the barrier and give him a chap in the eye :50:

No way, he never kicked him hard enough if anything. Shame he never set about Eduardo as well.

You know what, i couldn't give a * about Van Persie, hes a diving * as well.
I hope Man City use the same tactics as Arsenal did with regards to Eduardos blatant dive.
All they have to do is "Prove he meant it" You can't. Only Adebeyor knows if he did or not. -
* should be in the jail - he was fortunate Van Persie wasn't seriously injured! AND one of the stewards got hurt after his moronic celebration!

But it is his stamp at van Persie that is really sick. He deserves a suspension for that no question. -

First time that I actually liked Adebayor when he did that goal celebration. The Arses deserve it.
About the stamp: in my eyes van Persie tried to tackle Adebayor hard before Adebayor stamped on him -

I agree, RVP's challenge wasn't a good one but that doesn't make it ok to stamp on someones head.

Adebayor is a *, RVP is a * and Eudardo is a *, you couldn't move at Eastlands for all the * that were there.
I forgot to give Wenger a special mention there. CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNT. -
Think he deserves it for the van persie incident but the celebration wasn't that bad
