The difference is though, Lustig defended well enough - they are defenders at the end of the day. And wasn't it Lustig that put in that fantastic cross that Ciftci would have tapped into the net had a defender not cleared it over the bar?

Izzy almost assisted a goal for them with a belter of a cross.

 

Lustig played well fairly well in the second half after looking shaky in the first put in a topper of a ball across the face of goal and generally linked up really well with Johansen when he went out to the right.

 

He's my favourite player for a few years now. edit: I know he * up sometimes, but dont care too much.

Don't think so mate, Lustig was rusty at timing his tackles and consistently gave the ball away. He was lucky that most of the time Broony was on hand though and that they were awful.

He's coming back from serious injury, still in pain and hardly played though, so it's expected really.

 

Lustig was by no means anywhere near his best, but he still put in the best cross of the game and didn't make any major *-ups.

But aye, I'd have liked to have seen Janko get some time last night. His pace could be massive in Europe.

 

All the games you are mentioning were several years ago. He's not the player he used to be. I still rate, as he can have a great game. But he definitely needs competition.

 

Jordi Alba would probably cost a few million.

 

The games you used as a counter were all before the games he said , not one single good performance in Europe last season.

I think that RD expects Izzy to take risks and provide an attacking option. He puts in a real shift in games and does get caught out of position sometimes (usually when someone else gives the ball away cheaply).
But he is a solid defender and the best left back we have had in years. I reckon that he will get better when his understanding with Armstrong improves.

Think there has been a constant decline in performances over the seasons. Part of that may be due to the fact he's had 2 weeks off football in 4 years. Serious missmanagement where we haven't had anybody good enough that the manager felt he could rest him for a couple of weeks.

 

Love the guy, really do and he loves the club, I wish he could be consistent though.
I think, with some of the mad * he's capable of sometimes, he freaks out for a second or something, like lets his nerves take over then he generally settles and does well; we need to just get him to chill, stay calm and collected, think Ronnies the man to help him do that but he's still capable of, seemingly, nervy mistakes. He's a really good player and shouldn't be nervous at all because of that. Frustrating.

I love izzy buts it's nothing short of criminal how long we have let just have that spot and not got a pure LB in for competition in that place.

 

DI think the guy must be wrecked. Can't imagine there's an outfield player in Europe that's played more games than Izzy over the last three seasons.

I would give him a month off then bring him back, of course we would need to buy another LB to do that. Izzy on form is a very good player but the guy needs a break and fatigue has to be affecting his game, he wouldn't be human if it wasn't.

Was he no supposed to be resting instead of joining up wi Honduras? I hoped that would be the case cus he REALLY does need a rest. LB is definitely the priority for anyone else we bring in.

 

He was supposed to be yeah, then he said he was going again, dont think he did in the end though but could be wrong. Its not much of a rest though with us starting back training a few weeks after the end of the season.

Criminal that we've only had one left back for close to four seasons. Has to get rectified this window, even if its a young Janjko-esque signing, good cover who can replace Izzy when needed and take his place in the future.

 

He's been off form for a while but he is the best LB we have had for a long long time.

I don't want him to go but he needs competition badly.
