Sooooo now all our signings have to be 12 million since wanyama or we are downsizing.
Hope to * FF does not go for 15 million.

It does not work like that.

Infact Crystal Palace just last season alone were paid more domestic TV Money than Celtic have been paid in Domestic TV Money in our entire history.

The board are just steering us through treacherous waters just now. I think our model is correct, it is exactly the way teams like Porto & Benfica in poorly funded leagues went years ago. Only difference is they have the option of signing players without any work permit issues.

What has happened is we now buy lots of players in the 1-2.5M range, we still spend the same but we spend it on more players. This has led to a serious drop in quality, it also means there will be as many duds as success stories.

Thats actually what we have always done. There have only been 2 years where we went outwith that 2000 and 2001 where we spent about £25million on 5/6 players but then we barely spent a bean the following 4 years because of that. Back then we had to do that too, if we never we could have been buried as the Old Club had won 11 out of 12 titles back then and had just splashed £dozens of millions on players like Mols, Tugay, Ricksen, de Boer, Flo, Klos etc

But the problem is, instead of spending lets say 5 mil on a player who may get us more in return,we spend that 5 mil on players like bangur, balde, lassad, quite sad.

Might being the key word and the chances are also that, that one £5million player would be on more or demand more wages then those names combined, therefore if that was adopted we'd end up with a MON like squad, which we have a great starting 11 but the subs and the likes are total wasters.

I agree with this but I think the board have stated in the recent past that they would push the boat out for the right player if they thought there was an outstanding level of expected return.

We arent rich enough to be spending £5million on individual players though, we could probably manage it if we were guarenteed CL football every single season but we're not.

You are correct we do have the same wages available as we did ten years ago but we haven't grown with football 10 years ago you could get a great footballer on 20 grand a week now a good footballer will cost 60+ grand a week we have been left behind as football has progressed

That is outwith our control though.

We haven't asked to be left behind with regards to the obscene money being thrown at clubs by TV companies.

Aye, nothing at all we can do about that.

For example Hull City will get more TV Money alone this season than we will in total from all income unless we qualify for the Champions League.

OP's spot on. Haven't bothered reading the rest of the thread, as it's not really in question, for me.

Good luck getting anyone to agree you on this! :smiley-laughing002:

I've been arguing pretty much the same point since we lost mid-week.

Tony Cascarino cost 20 times more than Didier Agathe so the downsizing was maybe starting in the MON era

We are not downsizing we are just standing still while the rest of european clubs have moved along.
